We recently connected with Alina Macks and have shared our conversation below.
Alina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ll tell you a little about myself. I grew up in a small town, and I started working as a makeup artist there, doing makeup for holidays, weddings, and I never could have imagined that I would be doing makeup for big brand advertisements and Hollywood stars. In 2022, I moved to South Carolina and had to change my profession because I needed money, there wasn’t much work for makeup artists, plus I was super insecure about my work. I started working as a waitress and spent my free time filming videos and learning something new in makeup industry . I set up a mini studio in a small room and began filming a lot of content. I always dreamed of moving to LA, but I was very scared. I had never lived in a big city, and I don’t have any family members in America, just two friends. After my birthday, I decided to take that step and with a one-way ticket, I went to LA. Starting out was very hard; I had no connections, no acquaintances, and I was often discouraged, feeling like giving up. The most important thing is to understand that everything takes time (TRUST THE PROCESS) and now my makeup is on the pages of Forbes, on advertising billboards, and I’m eagerly waiting to see what comes next
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I always dreamed to be a makeup artist. In 2017 I became a brow artist, and with time I turned to makeup artist. I specialized on natural makeup and natural glam in European technique
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Your knowledges and trainings are not the most important things in makeup field. Instagram, how you present yourself, confidence, connections these things you have to focus on
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Many times yes! I don’t see myself somewhere else right now.
