We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Antonio De Jesus Rodriguez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Antonio De Jesus below.
Alright, Antonio De Jesus thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
This is an interesting question because my parents indirectly placed me on this path. I say so because they never thought it to be a practical profession. Screenwriting is an art, and sometimes it’s something that can’t be taught. Although my parents taught me naught about film, they allowed me to watch all the movies I wanted to watch. Of course, nothing too crazy. But this space they gave me was really what impacted my imagination. From a very early age I was fond of films, and dreamed of one day winning an Oscar. As I got older, my focus became more specific, and I couldn’t be happier. Screenwriting is my passion.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ll share a bit on discipline. I think we all have enough motives to get what we need to do, done. I think it’s all priorities. If you prioritize your work, you will thrive in what you do. Without priorities, you will struggle, and fall back into comfort. This in turn will help you not, and you’ll wonder why it is your struggles aren’t transient.
I’m proud of my writing, and if there’s one thing I want fans to know about me is that I’m an equal to them. We can all reach success, because success is subjective. It can be anything you want it to be.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The very first deadline I’ve ever had in screenwriting came to me a day before the deadline. A friend of mine approached me and told me his boss was looking for a screenplay. At that time I had my first feature, but it hadn’t been rewritten. I told him the situation, and asked if I’d be able to complete it, and have it ready for next morning. I said yes. I went into my retail job, shared what was happening with my boss, and he told me I could go home and work on my screenplay. It was one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me. I went home, and began around 6pm. I wrote until 6am the next day. I turned it in, sleep deprived, but excited. Unfortunately, my screenplay wasn’t chosen. But, that was the day I discovered my resilience for screenwriting. Deadline, or no deadline, when I write I take it seriously, and make it a priority to not be satisfied with writing a page or two in a day. More can be done when your heart is focused.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Well, I come from a traditional family. With traditional views, heritage, culture, etc. My parents’ work ethic is unmatched, and I’m sure many other families can say the same about their parents. Because of that, though, family does not understand fully, the journey a creative person is on. It’s a break from generational development into norms that older generations may see as the “only” way to success. Like I’ve said, I believe success is subjective, and anyone can be successful, every single day of your life. We just take too much for granted.
