We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Evonne Glenn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Evonne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
This mission is deeply meaningful to me because it is rooted in both personal experience and a calling from God. The vision for this organization came to me many years ago, but I didn’t know how to bring it to life. However, I was surrounded by powerful women of God, and through the Holy Spirit, I felt God speak to me, revealing my gift as a “feeder.” At first, I didn’t fully understand what being a “feeder” meant, but I came to realize that my passion for cooking and feeding people is how I express love, a gift passed down to me by my grandmother.
Cooking and feeding others has always been my way of connecting and showing care, stemming from memories of my grandmother preparing large meals for everyone around her. That tradition stayed with me, and even during the most challenging times in my life, it gave me a sense of purpose. I became a single mother at 19, which was difficult, but years later, I faced an even darker period when I became homeless and unable to care for my children or myself. It was in this moment of desperation that I was introduced to my calling from God, learning that my way of showing love was through food.
This organization is my way of giving back, to take burdens off of those who, like me, have hit hard times and feel as though they have no one to turn to. I know how powerful it is to have someone show up and offer help, a meal, or a word of encouragement when you’re feeling alone. Feeding people, and putting smiles on their faces, is what fuels my heart and gives me the motivation to continue. I want this organization to reach as many people as possible because I understand the deep need for support during difficult times, and I want to be the person who helps others feel seen, loved, and cared for—just as I wish someone had done for me.
Life can feel like a constant battle, but I believe in never giving up. You never know how a small act of kindness, like sharing a meal, can change someone’s life forever. This is why this mission is so meaningful to me. It’s a reflection of my journey, my faith, and my desire to make a real difference in the lives of others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Evonne Glenn, and I am a mother of four, married, and a grandmother, living in Austin, TX. I also have an emotional support dog who helps me navigate my daily journey. As an author, I wrote a book titled Trapped in the H23D to release the pain and trauma of my past. My experiences, including surviving sexual abuse, homelessness, addiction, CPS and jail cases, have shaped who I am today.
I love to cook and give back to those in need, just as I once needed help. I believe my story can inspire and uplift others who might be facing similar challenges. I am now living a healthy life and am grateful for the opportunity to help others find the light at the end of their tunnel. I joined Abundantly Anchored Ministries to fulfill my dream of giving back to the community, and I am blessed to be part of an amazing team of believers who share that same mission.
I’m honored to share my story with you. My journey into this business and craft stems from a place of deep personal experience and a calling from God. My name was shaped by a powerful vision that I had many years ago but didn’t quite know how to bring to life. I come from a background where food, love, and family were always intertwined, and that’s what laid the foundation for everything I do now.
Growing up, my grandmother was my greatest influence. She loved to cook big meals and feed everyone who came into her presence. Watching her share love through food left a lasting imprint on me, and I began to realize that I, too, had a passion for feeding people. However, it wasn’t until later in life, when I faced serious hardships, that I fully understood my purpose. I became a single mother at 19, which came with its challenges, but things got even harder when I found myself homeless and struggling to care for my children. In those dark times, I felt alone, but it was then that God spoke to me, showing me that my calling was to use food as a way to uplift and serve others.
I founded this organization with the intention of helping people who are going through tough times, much like I did. We provide meals and support to individuals and families who are in need, whether they’re experiencing homelessness, job loss, or any other kind of hardship. What sets us apart is that we don’t just offer food—we offer hope, love, and a sense of community. I want people to know that they are not alone in their struggles, and sometimes, something as simple as a warm meal can lift someone’s spirit and remind them that they are cared for.
In addition to providing meals, we offer encouragement and resources to help people get back on their feet. Whether it’s connecting them with services that can help with housing or employment or simply being a listening ear, we are here to support the whole person. I believe in feeding both the body and the soul, and that’s what makes my work different.
What I am most proud of is the impact we’ve been able to make in people’s lives. The smiles, the gratitude, the moments of relief that we bring to those who feel burdened—those are the things that fuel my passion. I’ve been where many of them are, so I understand the feeling of hopelessness, and it’s an honor to now be in a position to help others get through those dark times.
For potential clients or supporters, I want you to know that this organization is built on a foundation of love, faith, and a genuine desire to make a difference. We aren’t just another charity; we are a community of people helping people. Whether you are someone in need or someone who wants to give back, you’ll find that this is a place of compassion, where every meal served is an act of love. We aren’t just filling plates, we’re filling hearts.
Ultimately, my hope is to spread this mission across the world, touching as many lives as possible. If I can help ease the burden of even one person, then I know I am fulfilling my purpose.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One story that illustrates my resilience comes from a time when life seemed to be closing in on me. I faced homelessness, addiction, and found myself tangled in CPS and jail cases. It felt like everything was stacked against me, and I often wondered how I could make it through.
During this time, I had no home, no stability, and was completely broken emotionally and spiritually. But something deep inside of me refused to give up. I realized that I had a choice to make—either let my circumstances define me or fight to overcome them. My children, my faith, and the vision of a better life kept me going. It was during the darkest moments that I began to see a small light of hope.
I sought help, started working on myself, and leaned into my faith. With each small victory, whether it was overcoming addiction or regaining stability in my life, I grew stronger. Eventually, I rebuilt my life and became a voice for others who were facing the same struggles. Writing my book *Trapped in the H23D* was a major part of my healing process. It allowed me to release the pain and trauma that had once held me captive, and it became a testimony to my resilience.
Today, I use my journey to remind others that no matter how impossible things may seem, there is always hope and a way forward.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that being vulnerable meant being weak. Growing up and throughout my hardships—whether it was surviving sexual abuse, homelessness, addiction, or incarceration—I developed a tough exterior. I believed that to survive, I had to bury my emotions and avoid showing weakness. I thought that if I let people see my pain or admit my struggles, they would judge or take advantage of me.
The turning point came when I hit rock bottom, and I realized that carrying everything alone wasn’t sustainable. I had no choice but to open up, seek help, and trust others. Joining support groups, therapy, and connecting with people who truly wanted to see me heal was eye-opening. I began to understand that real strength came from acknowledging my pain and allowing others to be part of my healing process. Writing my book Trapped in the H23D was a huge part of that. It forced me to face my trauma and be honest about it, not just with others, but with myself.
In unlearning the belief that vulnerability is a weakness, I found that it is actually a source of power. It’s through being vulnerable that we connect with others, heal, and grow. Now, I encourage others to embrace their vulnerability and see it as a stepping stone to strength.
