We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natesia Turner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natesia below.
Hi Natesia, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to create children’s books that promote representation and confidence because every child deserves to see themselves reflected positively in the stories they read, helping them feel seen, valued, and empowered to embrace their uniqueness. I often use my own personal experiences in my stories to help promote confidence in children by incorporating diverse characters who face challenges and overcome them with resilience, courage, and self-acceptance. By sharing my own experiences, and triumphs through these characters, i show children that it’s okay to be themselves, to embrace their strengths and flaws, and to believe in their own potential to achieve greatness. Mt stories serve as a mirror for their own experiences and a beacon of hope that encourages them tp embrace who they are and be proud of their unique identities.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an army veteran and a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I started writing children’s books because I wanted to teach children life lessons that had helped me along the way. I currently have three self-published children’s books titled, “You With the BIG Name, When I Grow Up, and The First Day of School”. Each book consist of a main character overcoming a challenge while discovering self-confidence along the way.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I wrote my first self-published book titled, “You With the BIG Name” while I completing my Master’s Degree from the University of Kentucky, while also working full time and still being a mother and wife. Despite facing numerous challenges and juggling multiple responsibilities, I preserve with unwavering determination and tenacity. My ability to balance academic pursuits, professional obligations, and personal commitments showcase my resilience and relentless pursuit of my passion for creating children books.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I built and funded my business completely on my own because of my passion and genuine love for what I do. Every aspect of creating children’s books that promote representation and confidence is driven by my dedication to making a positive impact in children’s lives.
