We recently connected with Laken Stamps and have shared our conversation below.
Laken, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I was working at an everyday type clinic and knew I wanted to open a practice inside a gym. I had to fight to get where I ended up and I wish I had a mentor to show me the do’s and don’t’s along the way. If i could give any advice to docs opening their own clinic, reach out to someone who seems to have a successful practice and ask for guidance.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the one and only doctor for the Disney World of gyms in Houston, Texas, Alphaland. I work with body builders, athletes, and everyday people to help them live their optimal lives. I provide muscle work, cupping, scraping, dry needling, kt tape, adjustments, and rehab exercises. I basically examine what can help someone be a better version of themselves and help them to leave a pain free, less stressful life. I am proud of the fact that I’m a female doctor in a male dominated field working on men who are 3x my size without any issues.
I love showing people that my size has nothing to do with my ability to treat them and help them heal.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first got into my field I was working with two other men doctors who were extremely skilled and successful. I was very intimidated by them and felt like I wasn’t “good enough” to work beside them. It made me doubt myself as a doctor and my abilities. I found myself questioning if I went to school for the wrong thing and if I should still pivot into a different profession. Over time I had to show myself that I was just as good as they were and could do everything they did as well as them.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I decided to open my practice in a gym, I emailed multiple gyms to see if anyone was interested in adding a Chiropractor to their gym, no one ever wrote me back. I then thought maybe I should find their social media accounts and send messages that way, so I did and again, no response. I started to question if I should move out of Texas and open a franchise in hopes it would sell itself. It wasn’t until I made myself start showing up at gyms and asking to talk to the management that I started seeing some hope and with a lot of persistence I ended up at the best gym in the world.
