We recently connected with Justine Blanchet and have shared our conversation below.
Justine, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was just a few weeks shy of turning 12 years old, I was hospitalized for a burst appendix. At the time of my operation, my parents were told that if I hadn’t been at the ER when I was, I was would have passed away within 48 hours. After spending three weeks at the hospital due to complications, I was finally able to go home. The following months provided time for me to think about my life and the things I’d like to do. It was at that moment, that I chose to sing. I initially began in the opera genre, only to change to country music just a few short years later. The opera genre allowed to compete throughout Quebec and northeast USA, so I already had some stage experience. I also began writing songs at the age of 15 years. The rest is history.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was raised in a family of four kids. We were all homeschooled up till college. Growing up, our mom enrolled us kids into many extracurricular activities, including music. I started playing piano at the age of four years old. I then played on a daily basis for the next 13 years. Me and my siblings also picked up guitar for a few years. Since we were homeschooled, we could easily pick up the family and travel. We would visit the United States quite a bit. I loved hearing country music on the radio and my mom introduced me to many artists including Shania Twain, Reba, Lady A, and Faith Hill. Music has always been part of me and seemed all too natural for me to make it a career choice. My songwriting style is creative and melodies are unique. I believe that is because of my many years playing the piano. I’m proud to be able to share my story as well as be a vessel for other people’s stories.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve been pursing music in a professional capacity since the age of 12 years old. That was 11 years ago. Now at the age of 23, I have a degree in marketing that has helped for business aspects of my career, and I have successfully released over 15 singles, including an EP (2023). My decision to get a college degree caused a few people to question my dedication for my music. I believe a lot of people have the idea that artists are supposed to suffer for their art and live on someone’s couch to make ends meet.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love the idea of creating music and art that has never been done before and never will again. It’s special and it’s even more amazing to know that my songs could be part of other people’s special life moments.
