Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Youssef Guezoum. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Youssef, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I moved to L.A in …2013 and crossed 5 tough years where I experienced hardship and uncertainty about my future but never doubted I’ll make it to Hollywood. During these tough times, I worked many jobs to feed my small family composed from my wife and little daughter who followed me to LA. I took a huge risk !!!
Youssef, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Moroccan American film music composer and i was born in Marrakesh, Morocco in 1975, at an early age; I discovered my passion for music through my keen love for movies. At the age of 17, I created a band with my pals and started performing in events.
I learned to play guitar and African instruments by myself since the age of 10 and then I completed my studies in Belgium at the Royal Institute of Brussels.
I think i’m the first Moroccan film composer who made it to Hollywood even if in 2018,
my American dream was about to crash down when I could not pay my bills and was thinking of returning to Belgium, but I got my first contract of the same year and started my journey in Hollywood.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
2018, I got my first big contract while driving share-ride and was deeply relieved, I made many changes in my life and built my own studio at home. That small jobs works soemtimes!!!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My ultimate dream and goal is to create a scoring academy in my homeland Morocco with all the
high standards of Hollywood to support the local movie industry.
