We were lucky to catch up with Trevion Houston recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Trevion thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Having Friends and family support has never really been something I sought out because they never really see the vision until it is manifested. Family and friends tend to want everything for free or a discount. The line is drawn right at discount I don’t mind giving it to you at a discounted rate but for free means I loose out as well!
I’m a basketball coach and trainer so of course I get the can you train me for free or can I play for free lol! It’s not always easy doing business with friends and family so I had to learn how to separate business from the personal.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started coaching 10 years ago with my twin brother Davion Houston. This was really a dream of our brother Artreal Jones he loved the game of basketball and unfortunately we lost him due to a heart condition. So it was only right that we honor our bro by keeping his basketball dream and legacy alive.
Fast forward basketball became a love language for my son Kaedan Cash and myself. Swaveway Playaz was created for him and he is the CEO of it. This love for basketball that Kaedan’s mom Janay Cash and I have collectively for the game of basketball grew into our son’s LLC. It’s bigger than ball though our goal is to have all the Playaz be their own NIL deals.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Without giving up to much of our story Janay Cash and I met via YouTube and been rockin ever since. I am the marketing guy and she is all business. I am more of a gorilla marketing and keep my ear to what’s going in the community; J. Cash knows how to make everything look elegant and polished for the masses!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Basketball is my passion and God has made it apart of my purpose. Training is my twin and my side hustle pair that along side J. Cash’s graphic design hustle and we got P-School which is basketball training on the go that was created by My Twin and myself.
