We recently connected with Cory Plowman and have shared our conversation below.
Cory , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Over the years with my photography, I have realized that I am one who chases beauty all around me. I feel that this has been my mission in life, and it has become more clear. When I go out with my camera, whether I’m walking along the streets in the US or in another country, I see the allure and charm in the mundane that’s all around. I not only chase beauty; in a sense, I create it, as I’m a storyteller through my art. I love it when people look at my craft and see a story being told, appreciating its beauty.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up in California but I am now based out of Nashville. I am a world traveler, wandering and visiting close to twenty countries.
I believe that’s what makes me the photographer and artist I am today, to be able to chase the beauty that’s all around me.
Photography has always been a passion of mine, but it wasn’t until later in life, when I needed a creative outlet, that I pursued it more.
I love using my art to make things come to life. Whether it’s the people I photograph or the streets I explore while traveling, I have a unique and artistic eye for the things around me. I thrive on photographing the world that encompasses me to tell stories with my art. I want others to see the beauty, life, and story unfold before them, not just the image that they see. And I believe that is what I accomplish every time I get behind my camera.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Over the years with photography, I have had some letdowns, some moments when things weren’t going my way (i.e., a client never showed up, a gig fell through, etc.). But through those times, it made me stronger. I would grab my camera, listen to some music, and take a photo walk. Other times, I would go into my studio and make some new art with a creative twist. You will have highs and lows in life, but you have to keep creating. That’s what motivates me to persevere.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
With my camera, I seek out and create beauty everywhere I go. While I’m walking down the street, I might take a photo of something that someone else might overlook. My eyes are always drawn to the layers, contrasts, colors, and beauty that’s all around me. I hope they see that same refinement wherever they wander. These are the things that drive me to continue on this creative journey as an artist.
