Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcela Isaza
Hi Marcela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been weightlifting for 30 years and officially working as a fitness professional for a little over a year. I discovered my passion for strength training when I was 16 years old. I was too skinny and wanted to gain healthy weight. I liked how strong and confident it made me feel, so I kept going. I worked as an entertainment reporter in Hollywood for the Associated Press for 20 years and kept myself sane through exercise. I didn’t realize the positive impact strength training had on my mental health but understand it now on a much deeper level working as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I am now 100% dedicated to helping others find that confidence, and mental strength through exercise.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The career switch from journalist to personal trainer was the most challenging part. I loved exercise myself, but would I enjoy teaching it? It was scary to walk away from a successful career as an entertainment journalist to start something so different, but luckily it’s worked out and I enjoy my new career in fitness everyday.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Teaching clients about how to change their relationship with their body is most important to me. I work with people who have experienced various forms of trauma that have blocked them from movement and help them push through that discomfort. Anyone can start at any age, in any shape and even through various disabilities and injuries.
What matters most to you? Why?
I want people to realize they are not broken, they already exist in the perfect body. You are never too late to make a change. The fitness work we do is there to help us age with ease, and to take care of the physical vessel we are in. By caring for our body, our minds get stronger, we can release stress and anxiety, and build confidence and a loving relationship with ourselves through movement.
