Today we’d like to introduce you to Anez Ka
Hi Anez, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Anez Ka Arts (www.anezkaarts.com) was born in Malta, nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean, and began as a hobby. Never did I foresee starting an art business, but the idea gradually took root in 2022 and blossomed into a full-fledged venture in 2024.
My artistic journey has evolved towards luxurious simplicity, where the pinnacle of impact is achieved through minimalist forms. From the outset, it was evident that abstract art would be my medium of choice, offering me unparalleled creative freedom. Also for collectors, it represents a realm of complete interpretive liberty.
For those unfamiliar with my previous interviews, my name is Anez and I am a luxury fine artist specializing in large scale, minimalist abstract art. Here, amidst the serene seascapes of Malta, I find my inspiration to craft paintings that capture the essence of quiet luxury.
The concept of quiet luxury is very close to my heart. It is the timeless grace synonymous with complete relaxation, harmony, and tranquillity. It’s never about flashing labels but about extraordinary attention to detail, mindfulness, and quiet confidence. I invite my collectors to embrace the essence of quiet luxury characterized by elegance and harmony. Here, the lifestyle is effortlessly chic, embodying the luxury of less but with ultra-high quality and craftsmanship.
My timeless and unique artwork is designed to transform spaces into luxurious yet serene environments. In my view, minimalist abstract art is perfectly suited to this purpose. It invites viewers to delve into their own emotions and experiences, focusing on the present moment.
To sum up, it’s an exciting and extraordinary journey of self-discovery. Day by day, I’m refining my message, my website, enhancing my artwork and customer journey, and refining marketing initiatives so that my business is fully aligned with me. Something tells me that I will never be fully done as there are always new things to test and try out!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey so far has been as rocky as the Maltese landscapes! It’s been a whirlwind of firsts and a mix of emotions. The launch of my website (anezkaarts.com), my first painting sold, the first visitor, and my first print collection are just the highlights. Reflecting on what I’ve accomplished in a short timeframe brings immense satisfaction. However, it’s not always rosy. There are frustrations and sacrifices involved in managing every aspect of the business as a solo performer.
I must admit, it’s been a struggle putting my work out there, as it exposes me to constant scam and fraud attempts. You can find yourself in situations where others copy your art or want to use your art without the licence, which is not only unethical but also an infringement on copyrights. Additionally, there are situations where people try to exploit you, whether through so-called “mentors” who claim to know everything, “specialists” selling unnecessary services, or unethical galleries aimed at profiting from you rather than promoting your art. The challenges seem endless and the use of social media exacerbates this issue; the more exposure you get, the more scammers come your way. Given these risks, I’ve recognized that social media has very limited benefits for me and for my business. Minimal social media exposure is in line not only with my personality but also with the quiet luxury principles, so I started to reduce my presence on the platforms. My hope is that, one day, I will be able to close all my social media entirely and only work with a handful of selected partners and collectors. Here’s to hoping!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
All products offered via anezkaarts.com are bespoke artworks created by me. I offer one-of-a-kind paintings on canvas, digital artwork printed on paper and canvas, and I’m gradually expanding my range of luxury homeware. I’m currently focused on expanding my offer through hand-embellished artwork and a bespoke, personalized art made to order. I love offering handmade and personalized items as they possess more soul and uniqueness.
As I work on improving product quality, I acknowledge the challenges of finding suitable manufacturers who meet the required standards. I am continuously making necessary improvements and testing new suppliers. Upholding the highest quality standards is paramount. Simply put, there are no compromises when it comes to premium products. I also consider sustainability protocols, so there are many factors to examine before entering into a partnership.
What sets me and my art apart is that after an intense soul searching, I managed to identify my niche: the quiet luxury lifestyle. I have been guided by these principles, even before being able to name them. This concept transcends mere aesthetics, encompassing a way of life that celebrates timeless elegance, exceptional quality, and thoughtful design. Whether it’s in your home, wardrobe, or daily routine, quiet luxury is about creating an environment that exudes subtle sophistication. This concept emphasizes craftsmanship, attention to detail, understated elegance, and ultimate relaxation. There is no place for ostentation, excess, or constant display. It eschews the loud and the flashy, focusing instead on subtle refinement, superior craftsmanship, and a deep-rooted sense of serenity. This approach can be seen in interior design, fashion, and lifestyle choices, all unified by an appreciation for quality, mindfulness, and harmony.
Accordingly to the quality over quantity principle, I only create a handful of paintings during the year. My paintings are unique rarities, not transformed into NFTs or other printable goods. This uniqueness guarantees that owning an original painting means possessing a truly distinctive artwork. While many artists offer exact copies or reproductions in open or limited editions, I do not. The only circumstance under which I would consider limited print editions is if I kept the original artwork for myself. In essence, one-of-a-kind means one-of-a-kind.
To capture the essence of the moment, I photograph my artwork during the creation process. This unique approach ensures that my digital artworks stand out, as the prints are not mere replicas of the final paintings. Often, my concepts evolve, and the photograph becomes the sole artifact of the creation journey. It is then transformed into a digital print, adding value because the initial painting may never be completed in its original form. This method distinctly differs from what other artists practice, where they typically photograph the completed artwork and sell digital copies of that exact piece on a mass scale.
Hand embellished reproductions are very special artworks too as I add an additional layer of paint on the printed background. It’s an interesting addition to my offer as these prints can be customized – I can add a special dedication or a splash of collector’s favourite colour just to make it more personalized and unique. I also decided to offer fully personalized, bespoke artwork that is created together with the collector and based on their personality. It’s not a commission per se, it’s my artistic vision of a person and their uniqueness.
So yes, it’s all about the unique and one of a kind experience when it comes to my art and my process. Quiet luxury is at the heart of everything I do. My lifestyle, my studio, my home, my business, and my products are all grounded in the principles of quiet luxury. Each artwork is a testament to exceptional quality, prioritizing quality over quantity, uniqueness over mass production, embodying timelessness and minimalism. Every detail is crafted with meticulous precision, evoking serenity and tranquility to help curate your personal oasis of luxury.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I believe the Covid-19 crisis brought significant lessons for everyone involved—the governments, the medical community, society at large, and individuals. I hope that, from this challenging and unfortunate experience, people have learned to be more resilient, to always remain truthful, to resist pressure to act against their principles, and to avoid pressuring others into making decisions that may not be in their best interest. Our right to informed consent is paramount. Never relinquish your right to informed consent and always take responsibility for your own choices.
One positive takeaway from the Covid-19 experience is that it provided me the time to complete the design of my home and my art studio. This challenging period also made me realize the importance of creating one’s own oasis of luxury—a personal sanctuary to retreat from the craziness of the world.
