Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Hill
Hi Kaitlyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story has been one full of ups and downs. I started in photography in 2019 but took a break in 2023 to focus on my writing career. During my photography break, I published two novellas and one novel. However, I couldn’t stay away from photography for long and restarted my business early in 2024. Both my photography and writing career started spontaneously out of the need to create. I have stories to tell. Both through stories and visual art. I’ve always been drawn to the magic of love stories. So photographing elopements and couples, and writing fantasy romances, came naturally to me. It’s difficult to describe how I started in both of my creative careers because it came out of a need during the most unexpected time of my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! A smooth road? What’s that!? The biggest struggle I’ve faced with my business is confidence in my work. Both photography and writing are very vulnerable arts where I’m inviting the audience to see deep parts of me that I haven’t necessarily shown those closest to me. Some parts I can barely admit to myself! Yet, through my art, I feel free to share. Until I actually put those photos or stories out there for the world to see. It’s terrifying. And then, ignoring the personal aspects, I’m constantly concerned about my photography and writing skills.
Aside from struggling with confidence, I’ve definitely come across financial struggles – especially in our current economic situation. However, despite this struggle, I know I’m more fulfilled by pursuing my career goals in creative fields than working a 9-5 job.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m both a photographer and an author. In photography, I have specialized in elopements and am broadening my horizons to boudoir and couples photography. I absolutely love capturing both the intimacy and love between couples in love, but also the self-love women carry for themselves. I’m so proud of how far my photography has come and how my clients feel after working with me. To make clients feel their best and love their images makes me so, so happy!
In regards to my writing, I specialize in fantasy romance. And I think my writing has taken this direction because of my photography – it’s another way to capture the intimacy and love between couples.
What sets me apart from others is the fact that I specialize in two different art forms. When I’m photographing couples and women, my vision comes from a fantastical, almost fiction-type place. So I’m creating unique images with an ethereal edge. As well, with my writing, I’m able to create very realistic dynamics between characters because I spend so much time capturing real couples on camera.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is how happy and free you feel. If you wake up feeling happy about your situation, and feeling like you’re free to live life the way you want to, then I say you’ve made it.
