We were lucky to catch up with James Videau recently and have shared our conversation below.
James, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Well, for as long as I can remember I’ve always been a creative in some form or fashion. At a young age its was hip hop dancing, poetry and painting. It really became a reality after the passing of my father and a divorce as a means of personal therapy. I would design various graphics as a result. I showed a woman by the name of Porsche Wilson some of the things that I made and she asked me, “Why don’t you start a business?” It was weird for me because I’ve always played a supporting role in everyone else’s life, and hardly ever stepped out on my own. Plus, I didn’t think I was capable. However, I did it while I was scared and never looked back. That’s how Visuals by Videau, LLC was born.
James, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Visuals by Videau, LLC is not only a graphic design company, It’s a complete multi media conglomerate! Sure, we do flyers, logos, brochures, business cards, expo kits, etc. However, we also provide podcast building strategies, stage lighting services, video recording, video editing, clothes and book publishing. I believe what sets us apart from others is we have a plan to move in the AM/FM/XM radio and local TV channels. We want to be a complete media empire. Our work is quality and tailored to what you’re looking for. At Visuals by Videau, LLC you’re not a client…you’re family!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For me personally, word of mouth and in-person networking. I understand for some people it can be very challenging. However when I’ve met a potential client in person and we spark up a conversation they can connect the dots between the creation and the creative. Yes, ADs and email blast definitely work. Yet, most of your high paying clientele can only be reached in person.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To go to my grave empty. As a Pastor, I’ve done funerals for mostly millennials and gen-z. As I observe their remains go into the ground and see the tears of their family members, I feel in my spirit that they had a lot more to offer the world. When I close my eyes, I want to close them knowing I gave everything. No matter if it were a successful or failed attempt, at least I knew I gave it my best.
