We were lucky to catch up with A’de & Erin Nicole & Ru’cell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi A’de & Erin, thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
As a young girl, I have fond memories of my mother and grandmother gifting me craft sets, including candle making kits. The joy on their faces when I made candles for them left a lasting impression. Little did I know that this hobby would evolve into a passion for bringing that same joy to my customers. Our brand AHH Aromatherapy Co brand, founded in 2022 specializes in luxury candles, wax melts, and candle care bundles. Enhancing mental and physical well-being by harnessing the benefits of aromatherapy and a blend of modern and ancient holistic methods. Prior to that I tried many different business ventures and failed miserably, nothing fulfilled me. After loosing my grandmother who raised me, breaking free from an abusive relationship, and getting my life back on track and starting college I found my way back to what I love doing. Helping people. Recently myself and my cousin started Tell’em Cousin Podcast with a mission to keep it real and bring laughter and joy into our listeners life. We are educating and sparking conversations about mental health, self-care, and authentic living. I believe that everything worked out the way it was supposed to at the time that it was meant to be and I only have God and a wonderful support system to thank for that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Above all, I take great pride in being a mother and a wife. Beyond my family, my passion lies in entrepreneurship. I am the proud owner of Ade’s Holistic Haven LLC (aka AHH Aromatherapy Co), a company dedicated to educating, supporting, and empowering customers in fostering a wellness-focused lifestyle. Our primary goal is to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health by sparking discussions about the challenges we face in maintaining overall well-being. We also provide a variety of resources and products to support individuals in establishing and preserving a healthy way of life. Including luxury candles and wax melts. Our offerings are thoughtfully chosen and ethically sourced, reflecting our values of love and mindfulness.
I am also one half of a cousin duo pioneering the podcasting world with our engaging and uplifting show, Tell’em Cousin. Our podcast spotlights outstanding female entrepreneurs who are excelling in their respective fields. Through sharing their stories and strategies for success, we aim not only to inspire and entertain our audience but also to educate and spark conversations about mental health, self-care, and authentic living.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Our luxury candles and wax melts are all hand made with love. Candle making is truly a science. It took almost a year of experimenting to create my formula. It was not an easy process, I definitely felt like a mad scientist. I had been making candles since I was a little girl, as a hobby with my grandmother (I called her Meme) when I was about 9 or 10 years old, but to manufacture them for the purpose of selling them is totally different. I got a note book and started tracking and noting my formulas and outcomes. I am such the perfectionist that for a while I was not satisfied with anything that I created. It took a lot of studying and failing to get to where I am now. A side of creating the perfect formula find a vendor for all my supplies took months of research. When running a business the goal is to keep a low overhead, so you have to be very strategic when searching for manufacturers. My business is constantly teaching me lessons. The biggest lesson is to be adaptive and learn to pivot because this market is constantly evolving.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One of the most inspiring stories that impacted the way that I do business was that of an entrepreneur who story is laid out in a book called “Who Owns The Ice House?” The book is full of lessons that an entrepreneur shares that in my opinion anyone who thinks that want to be an entrepreneur should read. Entrepreneurship is no easy journey. It takes grit and the ability to persevere, especially when times are tough.
