Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adam Joshua. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Adam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Starting my own business was a challenge from the beginning. It all started with an idea.
In 2016, I decided I wanted to own a production company after bouncing back and forth between 9-5 jobs. I began with video production and photography, since that was all I knew how to do at the time. My prices were cheap, cheaper than anyone EVER. Over the past 8 years I worked on projects like feature films, reality shows, documentaries, and short films. Most of these projects were provided by another company and so my company sat dormant while I built my own skills in the industry.
The risk began when I stopped taking projects from other companies and began putting my company in the forefront. Over the past 2 years, I took a leap of faith and began assessing my skills and pricing them based on what I had learned overtime. For months, nothing happened. No clients, no recognition, nothing. I had found myself wanting to go back to working with other companies and getting my work through them. Still working 9-5’s, I decided to take on my career head on and quit working a 9-5, solely living off of my company. I began learning how to promote and market myself and my company. Slowly, clients began to trickle in, things were going good. Until one day, everything just stopped. No money, no clients, no returning clients, nothing. This put my company at a halt. I had to go back to working a 9-5 taking on low paying jobs just to survive.
Last year, I brought a newborn into my life and that shifted the entire dynamic for me. It was time to make a final decision and take things serious. I got on the ball and signed up for school, searched for a job in the field I desired to be in, and rebranded my company to ensure that I can begin bringing in a solid revenue. March of 2024, I found myself working at the Dr. Phil Show as a production assistant, and today I have decided to jump back into the game and utilize my skills, connections, and resources to build Moodi Entertainment into the company I desire it to be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Moodi Entertainment is a Tv & Film Production company focused on creating cinematic stories that inspire, motivate and encourage. Our target audience are young adults who face adversary, hardship, mental health decline, and struggle with thoughts of self harm. We believe that the youth is the future and everyone behind them will be follow their lead. If we can encourage them to believe in themselves, we can change the world.
I, Adam Joshua, CEO, Director, and Producer, work day and night to bring this vision to life. I have stayed dedicated to the goals I set for myself by reminding myself every day where I envision my company being and what steps are required to reach those goals. When I find myself feeling down or wanting to quit, I take a look at where I’ve come from and think about how close I am to reaching my goals.
At Moodi Entertainment you will find that we offer services to writers, actors, businesses, and creatives. For writers, we aim to help you get your film produced if we believe it is a story that can be successfully told. We also hold consultations for writers and upcoming producers on how to save money and gather money for budgeting. For actors, we offer reels, headshots, acting classes, growth consultations, and one on one coaching. For businesses, we offer product placement opportunities and consultations for growth and expansion.
You will find, at Moodi Entertainment, we are here to serve the community.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Funding my business has been a big challenge. The initial amount that started my company was a $10,000 grant from the Small Business Association. I used this grant to register my business and buy some of the equipment I still have today. The rest of the money that is invested into the company comes from out of pocket or from bookings/sales.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building my reputation took lots of time. What helped me build reputation was being out in front of people, showing off my directing skills, taking time to create my own projects, but most of all, not allowing myself to release a project that I was not proud of. Today my reputation continues to grow as I add new ways of giving back to my community and teaching those who are willing to learn, how to become successful in this industry.
