Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michele Romeo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Michele, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Working as an artist and musician is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my life. Admittedly, the path can be challenging at times. When you create your own work, producing new music content and working as a freelance musician, each day is unique. However, it sometimes takes a while to see the final results. I believe I can do what I do because I am very patient.
Frankly, I can’t imagine doing anything else. Making music and working in the music industry deeply motivates me. Whether performing, recording and mixing, or teaching, I strive to make a living and hope to eventually focus primarily on my own music project.
I’ve occasionally considered having a regular job, and I recognize it could provide more financial stability, especially in the beginning. However, I’m concerned it would stifle my creative process. I believe it’s crucial to nurture our soul along with our work, and a regular job might distance me from my true passion!

Michele, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
A Journey Through Music: Michele Romeo’s Story
My passion for music ignited at a young age. At 12, I was already dreaming of becoming a professional guitarist. Initially, I envisioned myself solely as a guitar player, but life had many surprises in store.
I began exploring music production at 16. However, a rare disease caused blindness by 18, halting my production aspirations. Opportunities for blind individuals to pursue this career were scarce in my hometown, Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, and across Italy.
My dream was to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, but first, I graduated in languages from IULM University in Milan, becoming fluent in English and Spanish. This step was crucial for my journey to the US.
In 2017, I moved to Boston to attend Berklee. There, I discovered a world where many dreams could come true, including studying music production. Berklee’s Assistive Lab Technology class, taught by a blind instructor, enabled blind students to master industry-standard music software like Pro Tools, Sibelius, and Logic Pro.
I majored in Professional Music, concentrating on Guitar Performance and Contemporary Writing and Production, with a minor in Music Production and Engineering. Graduating in 2020 was a transformative experience, offering countless new insights.
Today, I reside in New York City, a haven for visually impaired individuals. Over the past few years, I’ve gained independence and a wealth of knowledge. I teach, produce, record, mix, and perform throughout the city.
I pride myself on being a reliable, patient, and attentive collaborator. My goal is to ensure everyone I work with leaves satisfied and smiling. My home studio is equipped with top-tier plugins and the Apollo interface, ensuring high-quality production.
I teach both children and adults, celebrating my students’ achievements. You can find reviews on my Superprof profile.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely, I have a clear goal and mission with my work.
As we grow, our perceptions of life can evolve, revealing new horizons and insights. I never anticipated losing my sight, nor did I foresee that music would become a source of healing for me. I don’t pursue music just because it’s enjoyable; I genuinely believe that both creating and listening to music serve as powerful remedies for our minds and souls. For instance, did you know that runners who listen to music often achieve better results?
My mission is to spread love and positive energy through music. I want to inspire others by showing that if I can overcome obstacles, so can they, with persistence and determination. Life is an incredible journey, and I aim to continue this journey by doing what I love most: making music!
