We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robert Collier Jr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robert below.
Hi Robert, thanks for joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
What did my parents do right is very easy for me to answer. I’ll give you the top 3 key principles that still til this day impact my life greatly. Number 1 and the most important thing they did was taught me how to love and respect God. Without God nothing else in my life would be possible or even matter. Number two they taught me how important family is and how you should stick together and be there for each other. Third and final, they taught me to do what you love and to give it your all. Still til this day these 3 principles have help me to build the courage to branch out on my own and start my personal training business. REC Performance Training, and it’s with the help of God, support and love from family, and the passion for my gift that God has blessed me with, in the of fall ‘22 I will be opening my own private personal facility!!!

Robert, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Rec Performance Training was created from my passion of working out for myself. It was something I fell in love with over 20+ years ago and every chance I got to help someone learn at least what I knew, I took the opportunity, so I figured why not try to learn as much as I can, and I’m still learning by the way, but learn as much as I can and make a career out of it. So after working for numerous gyms and taking different experiences good and bad from them, I decided it was my time to do things my way. So Rec Performance Training was born. My mission and goal is to work with people in and on achieving whatever their fitness goals may be. Our mission is to take what we call the “Fab 5” and learnhow to apply it to your daily living. Mentality, Goals, Nutrition, Training, and Recovery. Incorporating these 5 components in your daily living will ultimately yield success!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
As to my reputation thus far and in hopes to keep it as least the same if not better, I would say there are 2 things. Number one I’m always at work. The best ability is availability. So if nothing else, you know I’m going to show up. Number to I will say is my attention to detail. A big part of personal training is teaching people how to do things correctly and you have to number 1 know what you are doing and you have to pay close attention to your clients. A lot of times they don’t know if their form is correct or not and if you’re not paying attention this could lead to injury and possibly losing a client also a possible ding to your reputation.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
They best source of clients for me since I have started has been word of mouth. When you make people feel good they will tell others!
