We were lucky to catch up with Andria Bieber recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I am self taught jewelry artist. The skills needed to be a jewelry artist are I feel a drive to learn, along with patience, being comfortable with repitition, and aptitude for change. A natural ability can help, but anyone can learn. Jewelry has different fundamentals it works with along creative lines such as wire working, beading, metal smithing, seed bead weaving and more. Obstacles that have stood in my way occassionaly are the way I view a project. Some have instant gratifcaition, a bracelet stringing project may take 1 hour and a seed bead project may take more time and focus and the appeal will lean towards a faster completed project. How much time do I have? Resources? and patience? If I have limited time I will focus on quicker artwork.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the craft, jewelry industry as a way of necessity along with being a creative person. I needed to earn money and wanted to combine it with art along with being able to stay home, provide for my family and with an easier schedule. I had been in a professional industry that kept me very busy and I wanted to find a way to be with my kids more.
The type of products/services/creative works I provide are teaching others how to create jewelry with technical skills or projects in jewelry making.
Some issues I solve for clients is how to do a technical skill in jewelry making such as how to wire wrap something. What I think sets me apart from others is an artistic talent for creating items as well as a direct way of teaching, making it easy for others to learn.
What are I most proud of is my published work. I have co-authored a variety of jewelry books and have been published in jewelry making magazines mulitple times. I was selected as top 5 rising stars by Interweave last year.
What are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
I am happy to share the love of beading with others through teaching. To encourage others to reach goals, feel good about themselves and a sense of acomplishment when learning a new craft. I enjoy teaching as well as creating new pieces. I love to create art and am paassionate about jewelry making as well as my business. There is more to jewelry than just beading a bracelet. It is learning about ones self and independance. It is finding what you enjoy creating, how you can do something new and put the idea of being intimidated off to the side while embracing a new challenge. Finding a starting point to begin the journey with and growing from there.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to share my love of jewelry creating with others and helping others learn how to create!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have goals and when I reach them I create new ones. A mission for myself is to grow as an Entrepreneur, grow my business reach, networking and add to what I have available in the form of new kits, jewelry and tutorials.
