We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sacred Union Arts a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sacred Union Arts, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
We came together on and off the mats in love and passion for Movement Arts and Wellness. Kevin Jiu-jitsu Master and Fitness coach, Phoenix Womens Wellness Specialist and Yoga/Dance/Fitness Instructor. We decided to combine our skills, knowledge and offerings and transform Kevin’s old gym into Sacred Union Arts.
At the beginning of the year in 2023, they took on a big renovation project creating our new space.
Then, in February, Phoenix’s father passed away taking a toll on her, her family and the couple coping with grief.
And 2 months later, Downtown Ft.Lauderdale was hit with record-breaking rainfall that flooded and completely destroyed the renovations.
With the support from each other, friends, family and clients they were able to reignite their dream. The new Sacred Union Arts location opened and was better than they ever expected.
Their resilience, bond, determination, love and grace proves stronger than ever. And the power of a connected community and village that wants to see each other thrive is incredible.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sacred Union Arts is a healing Oasis in the heart of Downtown Ft.Lauderdale for EveryBODY to grow, heal & transform. SUA is a Boutique Gym for private sessions & small group classes where we can provide individual attention and personalized coaching for our community. It’s your home away from home.
We provide a diverse program of Yoga, Meditation, Dance, Jiu-jitsu & Fitness so clients can experience the benefits of Movement Arts & Holistic Wellness.
Kevin is a 4th degree Black Belt Jiu Jitsu Master, Fitness Coach with a degree in Chinese Medicine. Phoenix is a Women’s Wellness Coach, Dance Choreographer, Yoga & Group Fitness Instructor with a degree from Howard University. We have a combined 40+ years working in our respective fields as practitioners deeply passionate about our profession.
One thing we’ve maintained as our core values is the importance of diverse community and quality service. We believe EveryBODY should have exposure and access to what can help grow, heal & transform Body/Mind/Heart.
Our Holistic approach understands the uniqueness of the individual and with the smaller classes we’re able to cater to that.
We want EveryBODY who comes home to SUA to feel welcome and supported in their Health, Wellness & Movement Arts journey.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
We actually met on Bumble 2 years ago. We went on one date, traveled to Brazil together and the rest is history. We immediately found love, deep connection and a shared interest in what we value in life from Movement Arts, to Travel and Adventure to Culture and Nature.
Which is why birthing Sacred Union Arts was so natural.
We recently got engaged this past May with plans to get married next May.
So when clients come into our space we want them to feel all the love that has been poured into SUA.
That’s what makes the energy and vibez at SUA so special and unique.
It’s a space that supports personal growth of the Sacred Union within and with others.

Have you ever had to pivot?
We were not ready for 2023 and everything that year came with. Specifically, beginning the renovations then 2 months later Kevin’s gym being destroyed was devastating. Especially in the midst of Phoenix grieving her father’s passing, we almost couldn’t see how to move forward.
Having to shift gears and figure out a way to still serve was tough. We took clients outside, to the park, traveled to their homes until we were able to move in our new location.
SUA’S new location was smaller and the layout significantly different so we had to open our minds to another vision of Sacred Union Arts.
2 rooms now, so a Jiu-jitsu and Dance could happen simultaneously.
Roll out mats, so there could be proper flooring for every class.
Sacred Union Arts became a cool, homey, boutique gym and convertible space that we have grown to really love and appreciate.
So grateful for the pivot.
