We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stefan Kang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stefan, thanks for joining us today. Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
As a company grows, it’s crucial to invest wisely in the business to manage the workload effectively, even though the ultimate goal remains profitability. In my opinion, it’s equally important to invest time in the artists, whether by providing extra time off or dedicating periods for them to learn new tools. This not only helps to refresh their minds but also fosters the development of innovative creative techniques.
In my years of experience in the industry, I’ve noticed one consistent trend: creative tools are evolving rapidly. While it can be challenging to keep up with the latest advancements, investing time in learning new tools and techniques is essential. This continuous learning process not only enhances the quality of the work but also ensures that creative practices remain cutting-edge.

Stefan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m currently an Art Director in Los Angeles, originally from Malaysia. I moved here several years ago to chase my creative dreams, and I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with some incredible studios like The Mill, Future Deluxe, MSG Sphere, and many talented artists from around the world. My career has evolved in exciting ways—from working on FX simulations for Super Bowl commercials, music videos, and game cinematic trailers, to art directing CG product films for brands like Pepsi, Apple and Google. I’ve also had the privilege of contributing to rebranding efforts for companies like Amazon Prime Video and helping design visuals for the awe-inspiring Sphere in Las Vegas.
Working in the creative industry, I focus on art direction and developing creative solutions for clients, whether it’s rebranding or creating CG product films that showcase their products. What excites me most is being part of the creative process and constantly pushing myself to innovate. I’m always seeking ways to blend innovation, art, and design, where design solves problems, art adds visual appeal, and innovation brings fresh, cutting-edge ideas into the mix. Striking the perfect balance between visuals and storytelling is a challenge I face every day, but it’s a challenge I truly enjoy.
The industry has evolved so much over the years, but I believe it’s important to stay connected to what first sparked your passion. For me, that’s all about constant exploration—experimenting with the latest tools, pushing their boundaries, and discovering happy accidents that help me tell stories that resonate on a deeper level.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is the ability to dive deeply into the creative zone, where you can fully immerse yourself in the process of bringing ideas to life. Whether it’s helping a brand tell its story or using innovative tools to tell your own, the experience is both fulfilling and invigorating.
In today’s world, the range of creative tools available is vast—from traditional hand drawing to cutting-edge digital mediums. While the tools may vary, the essence of creativity remains the same. For me, the greatest reward comes from the act of creation itself—crafting stories that resonate, evoke emotions, and connect with people on a deeper level. It’s not just about the final product; it’s about the journey of constant reinvention, where each project is an opportunity to explore new ideas, push boundaries, and grow as an artist.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe social media plays a significant role in this process. I’ve noticed that what truly engages my audience is the opportunity to see the progression of my work. Through social media, I’m able to share the journey of my projects, whether they’re personal or professional, and showcase how I’ve grown over the years through collaborations with various artists. Many fellow artists follow me to observe the research and development behind each creation. They appreciate learning from my process and gaining insights into how we bring designs to life.
Giving back to the community by sharing knowledge and experiences is essential. As an artist or designer, it’s important to consistently update your work and showcase it on platforms like social media. This not only keeps the community engaged but also allows your audience to stay up to date with your latest creations. By doing so, you contribute to the creative ecosystem, inspiring others while also continuing to evolve as an artist.
