We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cameron Blake a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cameron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I realized I wanted to become a rapper when I discovered how deeply hip-hop resonated with my own struggles. During some of the toughest times in my life, rap lyrics became a source of solace and strength, offering both relatable stories and inspiration. The way artists shared their personal battles and triumphs gave me hope and motivated me to transform my own situation. It was clear that I wanted to channel my experiences and stories into rap, not only to heal and grow but also to connect with others who faced similar challenges, using my voice to inspire and uplift them just as I had been.

Cameron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by the name of Jay$hawn I am a 25 year old hip hop artist who was kind of raised and grew up in all different parts of LA and Georgia. I’ve always been into hip hop heavy and used to joke about becoming a rapper as a youth but as I grew older I actually have it a chance and enjoyed making music which kind of became therapy for me to express myself. My most latest songs that I am most proud of are “Reapers Diary” ft.(Lil3nem4600) and “Unheard Stories” ft(Lil3nem4600). I believe what sets me apart from other artists is my sound, flow, and beat selection, which is different from any other typical LA artist. My fans can look forward to me dropping a new mixtape real soon titled “Humble But Not Average” where I feel some of my best work and versatility will be displayed.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Honestly what keeps me going with making music and staying creative is the potential to change my family’s situation and get us all out of poverty and start generational wealth and touch the fans through my music.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a artist is when people tell me that a song I made really touched or resonated with them it’s such a satisfying feeling.
