We were lucky to catch up with Tyler Kinert recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tyler , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
When I started Lost in the Trees Media back in 2018-19, it truly was all about my passion for photography and filmmaking. When I was a little kid, I was always stealing my parents camera or huge shoulder held video camera. Going out making funny videos or trying to film our our horror movies. That passion has not faded. So when I started Lost in the Trees Media, I had another full time job, so I was not worried about the money aspect of it at all. When I started working full time as a photographer and video creator in 2020, I kept in mind that I was still doing it for my passion and love of it. And if I ever feel like I am now doing this for money, that is when I need to stop. Now in 2024, I have never once felt like that and I am so happy to say that.
As I grow and build Lost in the Trees Media, I hope to bring people under my wing who are interested and passionate about photography like I am. Not just in it for the money. Work on projects and travel the world with people who are also passionate about their craft and what they do. This year I was so lucky to check off one of those boxes, as I was hired to go to Costa Rica on a fully paid trip to film a documentary for a group called Breathwork Evolution. Tomi Massey and the people at Breathwork Evolution are doing amazing things for people and their lives. It was a life changing experience for me, the people I was there filming and working for. And, one of the hardest jobs I have ever done. Travel wise, length of filming and work. But, this is literally what my dream and goal was when I was starting Lost in the Trees Media. To travel the world, filming, photographing and work with amazing people.
My legacy, and what I want Lost in the Trees Media and myself to be known for…? My passion, my love for what I do and what my brand means. My goal is to capture and tell everyone’s story the best I can. I will travel the world, work in the hardest and toughest conditions, I do not care. I love every moment of this and what I do.

Tyler , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Tyler Kinert – photographer & videographer based in Southern Oregon
Hello friends. My name is Tyler Kinert. (Kai-nert)
I was born in the charming town of Puyallup, Washington, in the year 1990, and I spent my younger years growing up in the picturesque city of Novato, located in Marin County, California. When I was about 13 years old, my family made the significant move to beautiful Southern Oregon, a region I still proudly call home, and I absolutely adore every aspect of Southern Oregon’s stunning landscapes and vibrant community. I spend the majority of my days alongside my amazing fiancé, who truly is my greatest supporter and the biggest fan of my creative work. I also cherish the moments I get to spend hanging out with my beloved Pitbull and Golden Retriever, “Krueger” and “Oliver,” as we enjoy going on hikes, traveling, and striving to explore all the incredible places that I can discover. One of my personal goals in life is to visit all the National Parks in the United States before I kick the bucket. In the exciting year of 2024, I had the indescribable joy and extreme pleasure of welcoming my handsome baby boy, “Cooper,” into this world, and I finally earned the amazing title of “Dad.”
I embarked on my photography journey in 2007 during my High School years, where I initially learned the essential basics of camera operation and composition. As a curious youngster, I often borrowed my parents’ camera or video camera to create imaginative movies and short films, but it wasn’t until others began to request my photos after discovering them online that I truly started to take photography seriously as a craft. In the beginning, I undertook small photography tasks free of charge, eager to gain experience and develop my skills. Finally, in 2019, after years of tirelessly honing my craft and building my portfolio, I made the conscious decision to establish a business, fueled by a strong determination to pursue a long-held dream: becoming my own boss. And that is where “Lost in the Trees Media” began its exciting journey…
Since then, Tyler has won multiple prestigious awards for his work with Lost in the Trees Media, including:
1st place for “Best Wedding Films & Videographer” via the Pacific Northwest Weddings Excellence Awards 2023
2nd place for “Best Photographer” via the Best of Southern Oregon 2023
1st place for “Best Photographer & Videographer” via the Best of the Rogue Valley 2023
1st place for “Best Photographer” via The Knot Best of Weddings 2024.
Additionally, Tyler has undertaken several large film projects, including the ambitious series “The Standard,” which is a compelling Friday Night Lights style documentary that follows the North Medford High School varsity football team through their season. He is also working on filming a powerful documentary in Costa Rica for Breathwork Evolution, which will premiere on YouTube first, with hopes of eventually reaching Netflix to share the inspiring message on a broader platform.
As a proud member of Southern Oregon’s small yet vibrant creative community, I believe I bring a unique perspective to my work that enriches every project. Whether I’m photographing the breathtaking landscapes of Southern Oregon, capturing the heartfelt moments of a wedding, working on dynamic ads and commercials, or setting the aesthetic for independent films, I always strive to prioritize the story at the heart of it all.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
For me as a photographer, this has always been a struggle. How do you get seen? You just keep posting. I feel like to many people get trapped in this “comparison” phase and then get self conscience and never post their work. JUST KEEP POSTING.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
