Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angell Pearce. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Angell, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Starting your own practice is a wild ride! In my experience, I was met with 2 distinct challenges. The first was all the back-end stuff – creating a website, social media accounts, email funnels, branding – all that jazz. Figuring this stuff out on my own was like throwing hours and hours of my spare time (when not working my full-time job) down a black-hole and coming out with something that was “just OK”. Imperfect action beats perfect inaction, right? The other notable challenge to starting my business as an Intuitive Reader & Spiritual Coach was feeling the fear but doing it anyway. I suspect everyone starting a practice may feel this way! Imposter syndrome, doubting yourself, fear of failure – it all comes up. I met these parts of myself with kindness. Acknowledged them, but chose not to invest in them. As an entrepreneur I know this won’t be the last time I will meet these fears!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
It all started with my Spiritual Awakening in 2022. On the backside of years and years of personal development work it seems I had unblocked myself so much that my crown chakra opened up, and God flowed in! I started to see the world through a new lens of love & light and then my intuitive gifts started to speak up. I was both overwhelmed and excited and luckily, the Universe quickly connected me to a teacher to help me develop. I mentored Nikki Novo alongside an incredible group of women for 7 months and on the other side of it, had developed my intuitive gifts to the point where I felt called to offer them to the World!
I started my business doing Intuitive Readings in January of 2023, and at first it was very scary! But I kept reminding myself I was there to serve and it wasn’t about “me” – I knew I needed to get out the way so that people could receive what they needed to heal & grow. After enough readings had passed, I began to see a trend. Often my clients were coming because they were feeling stuck or lost and the reading not only gave them clarity and direction, but generally some “inner work” to do. Now when I reflect back I realize it is no surprise that the “inner work” comes up so often in readings as it was that kind of work that I did on myself for so many years, prior to my Spiritual Awakening! Anyhow, after observing some ongoing themes amongst clients I began to run some group programs to help folks do their “work”. These programs were very fulfilling!
Finally, while running this business alongside working a full-time 9-5 that also has on-call requirements, it was getting hard to do so many readings. Spirit began to call me to serve people more efficiently, and I recently started a podcast called Spirit Club! We are 4 episodes in and have had excellent reviews/feedback from listeners. This podcast is, you guessed it, all about doing the “inner work” to lived and aligned and HAPPY life. Alongside discussion around personal growth, we dive down all of the spiritual rabbit holes. I hope you join Spirit Club!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have had to pivot SO MANY times! And only in the past few years have I developed a strategy around it. When I was young I was attempting to be a professional dancer and when I realized it would be a tough track, I pivoted and went back to school for Geology. I say it casually but it was not casual. Letting go of the identity of “being a dancer” was so painful for me.
After graduating with a degree in geology and getting a job in the oil & gas industry, I again learned a lesson around pivoting. The oil prices crashed and I was constantly losing my job and having to go back to working in a restaurant. I was so stuck and frustrated. This is where my journey into the inner work began, as I realized there was a problem if my happiness relied so heavily on being a geologist. As I detangled my worth from being a geologist, two things happened. One, I never had trouble finding work as a geologist again and 2, I began to realize that I didn’t even like it very much! I started to explore what it was I might actually enjoy, and that led me to pivot into Nutrition & Health Coaching.
After having 2 major career shifts, when the fall of 2021 rolled around and the winds of change blew through me, I knew that the Universe wanted me to shift out of Health Coaching. I recognized the feeling. This time, I didn’t fight it so hard. I grieved Health Coaching and the little business I had worked so hard on, and I surrendered into whatever/wherever it was God wanted me to go. And I could NEVER have dreamed that God had this Spiritual Awakening and eventual business in store for me!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
You won’t be surprised to hear this answer but, working on yourself is the MOST important thing I think you can do to build a successful business. Like a romantic relationship, a business shows you what work you need to do on yourself, if you are paying attention. It could be unblocking limiting beliefs around success/money, it could be healing through inner child work around self-doubt, it could be expanding into the next-level version of yourself that needs to be seen! The work never ends but it pays off more than anything you could ever imagine.
