Today we’d like to introduce you to Youngsta Savage
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Youngsta Savage, an underground rapper and artist from Moshi, Kilimanjaro. I began my musical journey in 2013, inspired by the vibrant local scene and my passion for hip-hop. Initially, I was experimenting and honing my skills, performing at primary school events and collaborating with other local artists and in groups such as Men Trust Music. Currently, i work under the duo group (YMG) with Mikue Young, another artist from Moshi Town.
In 2018, I decided to take my music seriously and launched my official career. Since then, I’ve worked tirelessly to develop my unique sound, blending traditional African rhythms with modern rap influences. This dedication has helped me build a loyal fan base and gain recognition in the underground music scene. Today, I continue to push boundaries and create music that resonates with people from all walks of life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth at all. Starting out in Moshi, Kilimanjaro, just a small town, resources and opportunities were scarce. It was and still has been a constant struggle to get my music heard and to find platforms that would support an underground artist. Financial challenges and balancing a music career with personal life added to the difficulties. But every obstacle has made me more determined and resilient.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work focuses on delivering raw, authentic stories through my lyrics, blending traditional hip-hop with unique African influences. I specialize in lyrical storytelling and powerful performances.
I’m known for my dedication to the craft and my ability to connect deeply with my audience. What sets me apart is my unique perspective, grounded in my experiences and heritage, which brings a fresh and genuine voice to the rap scene. I’m most proud of my ability to stay true to myself and my roots, while also pushing the boundaries of my genre.
My idols include Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Young Thug, who have all inspired my style and approach to music. Locally, I’ve been greatly influenced by Ay, Professor Jay and Young Killer whose works have paved the way for artists like myself in Tanzania.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
As an underground rapper and artist from Moshi Kilimanjaro, I view risk-taking as an essential part of growth and success. One major risk I’ve taken is balancing my school curriculum to achieve good grades while simultaneously pursuing music opportunities. Starting my music journey in 2013 and officially launching my career in 2018, I had to make difficult choices to ensure I didn’t compromise my education or my passion for music. This balancing act required immense dedication and time management, but it ultimately paid off by allowing me to develop both academically and artistically. Taking risks like these is crucial because they push you out of your comfort zone and help you achieve your goals.
