Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Braziel
Hi Shelby, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have forever had a love for cooking & baking. In 2021 I had just quit my full time job and had a creative itch. I finally had time to fulfill it and bring my love for baking to life. I was mostly just doing it for fun and to prove to myself that I could do it. I gained interest from friends and family here and there after posting to my socials or by word of mouth. From that point, Salt & Sugar Baking Co. was born and the rest is history.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth having comes easy. There were lots of failed attempts, lots of financial setbacks and lots of learning curves. But I’m grateful to each one of them. Each failure teaches you something and gives you the opportunity for growth. If you don’t fail, you won’t succeed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Salt & Sugar Baking Co. specializes in large gourmet style cookies. Unlike cookies you can buy in the grocery store, each cookie is crafted to order with minimal and fresh ingredients. Never frozen, never stored. Quality is so important to me. I built this cookie business for the people in my community to be able to have the option for gourmet style cookies that aren’t offered otherwise anywhere within a 100 mile radius. And in small communities, what’s better than supporting local while also knowing what goes into your food? My micro bakery was created and continues to thrive in my home cottage kitchen.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I previously enjoyed sharing my recipes on a blog site. However, with blogs, they can be very time consuming and so tedious. Thankfully, social media has provided small bakers and business owners like myself with a platform to market and exchange ideas. I have been inspired by so many bloggers & fellow bakers in the social media space that I could never be able to name them all. However, I am so grateful to social media platforms like Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook for giving me the tools to expand my small business and find opportunities within the baking community.
