Today we’d like to introduce you to Taz Garcia

Hi Taz, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

It started with my first film project “The Dark Side” which was originally intended to be a short film and then quickly turned into a feature film with a budget of just over $100 while mostly using friends and family as actors and crew over 17 months. It was a true story of corruption in the martial arts world. The film was shot on a DSLR, mostly in a ‘run and gun’ fashion. What kept me going was a clear vision, a heart filled with passion for film, and an incredible dedication to share the story of the true events as a martial artist. The film’s humble origins provided me with many lessons and invaluable connections that led to ripples among the indie filmmakers world and my official debut with a double credit a year later. Not long after, the up-and-coming Director-Actor, Taz Garcia finally began to pop up as a blip on the radar of bigger names and projects. I wish I could say it was a simple straight line. Overall, the words ‘dedication’, ‘thick skin’ and ‘passion’ come to mind.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

Like most new actors and filmmakers would agree, there were numerous challenges that I faced, including financial instability due to low or no pay projects, difficulty in securing funding for projects, and limited opportunities in a highly competitive industry, with very few people wanting to take chances on the new guy who was also listed as ‘ambiguous’ which wasn’t a fully workable look when I started. It was up to me to believe and invest in myself – before anyone else took a chance on me, combined with taking action; to film and showcase my abilities as a performer and creator. That approach is truly one of the most effective self-promotion tools when attempting to carve a path to recognition, constant work and hopefully success.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I’m an actor, director, producer, and speaker who loves storytelling and inspiring the up-and-coming generation. I’ve been blessed to work on many projects internationally both in front and behind the scenes that include everything from films, documentaries, video games and music videos. Currently I’m working on several different ways to give back through charity and by providing more platforms for new talent to be seen and be heard.

What matters most to you? Why?

Sticking to my morals, paying it forward, and lighting a path for up-and-coming creators and performers.
