Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovonia Ayers

JoVonia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

I am Jo-Vonia but, I prefer to go by Jo. I am the owner of Loc Beads and Things. I started my business journey in 2020. I got started with inspiration from a few friends and, family. They saw beauty in my art work and, thought I should be selling it to others. I took that inspiration and, started going to events to sell my adornments. I’ve continued to create new products that are unique and, very popular among my local community. Ive been selected numerous times to be apart of local events including fashion shows, women empowerment showcases, Breast Cancer Awareness events, college events, and large Festivals. I’ve really learned so much in the last few years growing my business. I know that with God’s grace my small business will become a Big business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

This journey has not been the smoothest but, I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles along the way. I started my business with little money and, a dream. I had no real expectations other than creating beautiful art for my friends and, family. I learned that some months I may not make much money and, sales will be low. I also learned to keep going no matter what and, to never give up. I realized it may be challenging to stay relevant and, inspired at times. I will never lose faith in God’s plan for my life and, business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

I create hair adornments for individuals who enjoy being unique. I specialize in creating one of a kind Hair jewelry that will set anyone apart from the crowd. I make Hair and, body adornments including, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and, much more. I have items that I did not create with my hands but, are items I love and, wear myself. I have Jumbo satin hair bonnets for sleep and, for the shower. These two items are a really big part of my inventory. I choose products that are durable, and, made with great quality. I have seasonal items that sell very quickly including pens and, mini journals. One of my newest add on’s are the Mink eyelashes. I accentuate the eyelashes with beautiful rhinestones to give them a dazzled effect. I also add rhinestones to belts, shoes, hats and jewelry. I love glitter and, rhinestones as it adds an extra layer of flare to any piece. What sets me apart from others is my attention to detail I create each piece using different materials like glass, wood, metal, and, other fabrics. Everything I have in my inventory is special in its own way and, made with Love.

What matters most to you? Why?

What matters the most to me in life is my relationship with God and, Family. I know that God has a purpose for my life and, starting this business is a big part of that. I really Love my family and, knowing they are proud of me makes everything worth it. I always wanted to start a business but, never realized how challenging it could be. Although I’ve experienced some hard times, those times were never meant to discourage me. Each obstacle that I overcame was worth it. I am so happy I decided to start my business and, will continue to help it grow.
