Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Carney
Hi Adriana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey as a Photographer, when I purchased a camera with my appreciation zone points I accumulated as a Retail Store Manager. Month over month, my store was the top in sales and I was rewarded with points I could redeem for Amazon gift cards. Around this time, two of my four kids, were diagnosed with life changing disorders. My now 8 year old was diagnosed with Autism and my now 5 year old was born with a Congenital Heart Defect and Rare Genetic Disorder. Through all of the challenges, finding peace and joy was a priority. My camera gave me a means to capture that peace and joy. I’d share the journey on social media and soon got a lot of interest in my ability to capture warmth, love, joy and authenticity in my images. I soon started taking on clients and as of last year, opened a Photography Studio in my town; Adriana C Photography.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A lot of the process of opening a photography studio requires patience. Finding a location was nearly impossible. You would think with all of the vacant commercial properties, it would be easier. There were lots of phone calls that were not returned; places that required a lot of construction; and leases that were out of my price range. Keeping an eye open and not rushing into things allowed me to find the perfect location, at the right time.
Even with the perfect location, there are little things that always pop up every now and then. Like the time when my son locked my office door. I called a locksmith to assess the situation and he happened to show up, immediately removed the door knob and then invoiced us $450. No assessment or conversation. It would have been less money kicking the door in.
The studio is still under construction but the functional spaces work well. I think the best part of being a business owner is that you make the rules and sometimes you can break them. I remind myself that the space does not have to be perfect; it will always be a work in progress and that is okay.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer and specialize in family photography and business brand photography; following client’s greatest moments and milestones. Most of my work on social media is from my family sessions. Clients always tell me that I capture their child(ren’s) personality exactly as they are. I always want my family and children to have fun and enjoy their session. I love it when kids don’t want to leave the studio because they were having too much fun. I never want portraits to feel like a chore. The experience matters and I think that is part of what sets me apart from others. I truly love what I do and try to create an inclusive, joyful environment.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
