Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan Ledvorowski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ryan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
When dealing with home building or remodeling trends shift every few years so it’s very important to recognize people’s demands. One of the trends I’ve see the most is the preference of luxury vinyl plank and wood laminate floors especially with younger customers who have children and/or pets. They are cheaper alternatives to wood or tile and are very durable. So it’s become very important to be familiar with these products. Another big trend is the removal of carpet, especially in family areas of the home. Most of the remodeling projects involve removing carpet then replacing it with something like luxury vinyl plank or wood floors. It’s also important to realize the home building trends. Most modern homes tend to have wide open spaces instead of broken up sections. Therefore it’s common to see the same type of flooring throughout the entire house instead of a different floor in each room (i.e., tile in the kitchen, hardwood the living room, carpet in the bedroom). Finally, there is engineered wood flooring instead of the traditional hardwood. Wood floors have a timeless look, but with the cost of materials and labor going up engineered wood flooring offers that classic look at a cheaper price. It’s crucial to recognize these trends in this business. By doing so Ledvo Flooring saves customers money and gives their home a modern look.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I never planned on being in the trades or owning a business a few years back. The opportunity seemed to present itself. I lived in Wisconsin most of my life and spent over a decade in retail as a store director and operations manager. I battled with alcoholism and substance abuse in my 20s. Then in 2019 my sister passed away and fueled my addiction to the point where I needed to make a serious change. So in 2020 I moved to Arizona for help and started over. Shortly after moving to Prescott I met my mentor Jack Jennings who saw potential in me and had me apply for an apprenticeship at With The Grain Inc. where he worked. During that time I became inspired to start my own company and shortly after completing my apprenticeship I started Ledvo Flooring LLC. My sister was one of my biggest inspiration so I decided to name my company after her high school nickname “Ledvo.”
I bring the principals of recovery to my business by being sober, honest, reliable, and understanding which has made my company thrive. My main priority is customer satisfaction. I take pride in the quality of my work and make sure that installations are done right instead of being hastily put together. There are many contractors that just care about getting a job done as quickly as possible whereas Ledvo Flooring puts satisfaction and quality first.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
During my apprenticeship I realized I wanted to start a company of my own. I knew it wouldn’t be cheap and I didn’t have a financial backing so I decided to take the long road. I spent almost two years slowly acquiring tools, equipment and resources. Aside from bills most of my money went to buying a truck and chipping away at the long list of tools I needed. In early 2024 I had all the equipment and enough money to pay for the license and other start up business expenses.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My flooring mentor, Jack Jennings, passed away due to health complications in early 2024. Before he passed he got to see me get my license and business started, which was very important to me. I make it a point to remember his teachings and perform quality work on every project.
