We were lucky to catch up with Billi Rogers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Billi, thanks for joining us today. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
Voss Alan started as just me, working solo in design—essentially freelancing, but always with a larger vision in mind. During those first two years during the solo hustle, I was preparing my husband to join the business. We realized the powerful combination of having both design and development expertise under one roof, something that most studios lack. When he came on board, we decided to focus on the emerging tech space, a niche we are both deeply passionate about. With our unique backgrounds, we are able to offer high-level consulting and fractional leadership services, setting us apart in the industry by providing comprehensive go-to-market expertise with a human-centered approach.
As our project load increased, we started by bringing on interns, one of whom eventually transitioned into a full-time team member. This approach allowed us to grow organically while maintaining our focus on quality and innovation. As we continued to expand, we began hiring more senior professionals to take on leadership roles. This shift allowed us to focus more on Voss Alan’s strategic growth and future direction.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have done anything differently. The path we took allowed us to build a solid foundation, stay true to our vision, and cultivate a team that shares our passion and commitment to empowering our clients.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Voss Alan provides comprehensive, human-centered solutions for the emerging tech space. We offer high-level consulting, fractional leadership, and go-to-market strategies that uniquely combine both creative and technical expertise. Our services are aimed at empowering clients and driving impactful results.
What sets us apart is our holistic approach, combining cutting-edge technology with empathetic design to solve complex problems and create meaningful user experiences. We’re most proud of our ability to create scalable solutions that grow alongside our clients, fostering innovation and bringing their visions to life.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our most effective strategy for growing our clientele is simple: do good business. We focus on meeting the deadlines we set, providing education to clients throughout the process, and empowering them with solutions that are both scalable and manageable. Our goal is to deliver results so effective that clients can continue running their businesses independently, without needing ongoing support from us unless they choose to. A job well done means we can confidently step away, knowing our clients are equipped to succeed on their own.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is the notion that the client is always right. Over a decade of managing coffee shops and working as an EA groomed me to prioritize serving others and meeting their every need without question.
However, I’ve found that sometimes clients need guidance rather than simply getting what they ask for (this rings true for all of us). By approaching these situations with empathy and a focus on industry growth, we can provide valuable education and insights that ultimately benefit both the client and the broader industry, ensuring more successful and sustainable outcomes
