We recently connected with Tekulve Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Tekulve, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our TV series “Backstreet”, was inspired by a road in Citra that represents many small towns in the country. Friends, family, and many life stories. To help people understand the culture, I started writing songs they could relate to, and then later ventured into filmmaking. I started filming in 2016 to illustrate how your actions affect more than you. Mental illness and relationship difficulties are also discussed, as these are often experienced differently by people. The characters have life stories and the various ways they try to cope and overcome them. Backstreet presents many storylines that will capture these experiences with excitement, suspense, and drama.
I started this with my wife, Theresia Jackson while raising five children. She’s a licensed mental health counselor who runs an individual, family, and couple therapy service. We then teamed up with Regas Woods, a Bronze medalist in the Paralympics, who plays Clayton, and then years later in 2021 were joined by Christin Hayes (Hayes Multimedia) and Governor Jamal Mosley with GBG Photography.
The purpose of this project is to change to a local narrative because there is often a negative image that there is nothing to do here, or that opportunities such as acting are too far out of reach. Well, this project gives everyone a chance to do it right here in our hometown.

Tekulve, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Originally, I was a Christian rapper and producer. I’ve been making music for over ten years and have always wanted to do a video. When I realized how much the video would cost, I thought I could take the same amount and buy the equipment and do it myself. This wasn’t too difficult to learn since I’m familiar with sound mixing and mastering, and it’s great that our community has come together. In our local town, people can now audition and gain acting experience. Because we are funding it ourselves, we have complete control, which means we can work with people with no acting experience to teach and guide them into their passion. We started this with no help, and I’m proud of the fact that we were able to get it distributed on well-known streaming platforms, and now we’re growing. What we want everyone to know is that this project is open to everyone. We are a diverse group of compassionate and enjoyable people. Since starting, Backstreet is now streaming on major platforms like Tubi, Amazon Prime Video, and Roku TV.
