We recently connected with Arrington Chadwick and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Arrington, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
If I could pick the single thing to be remembered for it would be for being a voice for the youth. As I started my business at the young age of 14 and have worked extremely hard to reach where I am at during this point. Through all my endeavors I want to show other young kids and teenagers that they have the potential to do something that is truly major in this world. The youth is not told or shown frequently enough that they all have something special that does not necessarily solely come from success in the classroom. There is a large number of individuals who are in such a strong need of someone not only believing in them but telling them that their dreams are achievable. Although that is nothing to be looked over, creativity is a huge valuable asset that is not spoken on enough. I want to be an example and voice to show anyone that they are fully capable to create the lives of their dreams and find joy through work by doing something that they truly love.
Arrington, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a young entrepreneur and digital content creator through my clothing brand Royal Fifty Two and YouTube channel. My entry into the world of clothing bloomed from my inability to afford the clothing pieces that I saw others around me wear that I truly wanted. This sparked my creativity to begin designing clothes myself to be offered at more affordable price points, which led to me becoming the CEO of my brand at only 19 years old. The way in which Royal Fifty Two has developed and grown makes me the most proud as it has taught me the valuable lessons of patience and determination. My brand is a modern streetwear style clothing brand designed for all to wear proudly and enjoy. Bringing a range of designs with each garment, Royal Fifty Two gives a different approach to the world of clothing. Many do not realize that behind the design of each piece, there is a message being sent through my slogan “Own Your Empire”. This is meant to show that no matter what you are striving for to put the most effort towards it, and essentially own what you are trying to achieve. For example, whether it were to become the best at your job or to start the next Fortune 500 company, Own It.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Beginning at age 14, gathering enough money to independently start a company seemed nearly impossible to do. For months on end I spent every second of spare time I had finding some way to make a dollar. I was able to obtain a job as a basketball scorekeeper which only paid $6 per game, but after countless weekends as an eight grader at the time I was able to make enough money to afford my first run of t-shirts and turn my ideas in a sketchbook into a physical product. I carried a duffel bag full of my first t-shirts to school everyday for a month until I was able to sell all 20 shirts that I had packed. From there on, reinvesting my profits into larger quantities allowed me to grow and generate a small buzz in my community until I knew that I was able to elevate my brand to the next level.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Pop-up events, vendor booth, and fashion shows have all played a major role in the growth of my brand name and clients. These events put me in the position to be able to showcase my products to individuals from all over the map. My lack of fear and love of communication goes hand-in-hand with these opportunities as people can not only see and feel the quality of my product first hand, but to be able to see my passion behind my creations. The ability to be able to create conversations with individuals at these events creates bonds beyond just a love of product and at times lifetime support of what you do.
