We recently connected with Dr. Wanita Mercer and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Wanita, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?

First, thank you so much for inviting me to share more of my entrepreneurial journey again!

I launched Lead My Heart in 2022 as an executive coaching business, but it quickly became clear that my vision extended far beyond traditional coaching. I wanted to offer something truly unique—a blend of creative and strategic services that catered to the diverse needs of my clients. My background in fashion management and design, where I not only styled and produced fashion shows but also designed clothes and even launched my own clothing line, gave me a wide range of skills that I knew could benefit my clients.

With Lead My Heart, I wanted to bring all of my talents to the table. If my clients needed styling consultations, I could provide them. If they required a photo shoot layout and setup, I could handle that too. If they wanted to write a book, as a self-published author I could guide them through the process. And for those pursuing a doctoral program, I could mentor them through their journey. My goal was to create a service that leveraged every skill I have, whether it’s public speaking coaching, book coaching, or anything else my clients might need.

This vision led to the creation of Write My Heart, one of many services under the Lead My Heart umbrella that helps executives write their books. I believe that every executive has a unique story and leadership philosophy worth sharing. Many of my clients are interested in writing a book to share their insights, build their personal brand, and step into speaking opportunities. Offering this service felt like a natural and essential extension of what I provide, allowing me to support my clients in even more meaningful ways.

At Lead My Heart, I provide an extensive array of services that go beyond traditional executive coaching, all designed to nurture the holistic and spiritual development of my clients. I offer personalized 1:1 coaching sessions, as well as team, group, and corporate executive coaching, ensuring that leaders at every level receive the guidance and support they need to thrive.

My services also include engaging talks and seminars, where I dive deep into essential leadership topics, and executive luncheons that foster meaningful connections and discussions among peers. I also provide keynotes and invocations at special events and meetings.

Beyond these core offerings, I specialize in a range of 1:1 services that cater to the unique needs of my clients. My book coaching services guide executives through the process of writing and publishing their stories, helping them articulate their leadership philosophies and build their personal brands. My personal branding consultations empower leaders to present their most authentic selves to the world, while my doctoral mentorship provides valuable support and guidance for those pursuing advanced academic goals.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

The core goal and mission fueling my creative journey is to empower leaders to live out their divine purpose, unlock their full potential, and discover the joy and fulfillment that comes from the journey. While life presents challenges, I believe that by embracing and using the gifts and talents God has given us for His glory—in how we lead, guide, uplift others, and build organizations—we can enrich our lives and make a greater, positive impact on the world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in this executive coaching space is realizing that no one person’s journey looks the same, and therefore shouldn’t be coached the same (i.e. utilizing rigid or dated methods). I get to curate services tailored to their needs and journey, exercising my many gifts and talents, and that is so amazing and fulfilling.
