We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mammoth Rios. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mammoth below.
Mammoth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
When I started my company “The Golden Serpent Tattoos”, it has had its ups and downs but as does everything in life. What motivates me is never having to work for someone again. Tattoo artists go through this thing called slow season which starts in November and ends in January. During this time money is harder to make due to the holidays so we have to be prepared for when it comes. Last year I was starting off late in August so when slow season had came I was barely making ends meet to the point I thought that I would have to get a job. But no matter what I’ve gone through I was able to make it out of a sticky situation, so I held out over came that hump and business started booming booking weeks to almost months out while learning and improving from my mistakes last time. So the answer is no, I never really think about getting a regular job because what I do now is what I will continue to do till I retire.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I never envisioned what I would be doing with my life was tattoo. I got into this career path because I was constantly being complimented from friends about my art and trying to convicne me into tattooing and how they would tell me how cool of a tattoo it would be on their skin. I would always feel honnored with such complements because thats a life time commitment to my art.
So one day when I was older I had meet the right guy who taught me the passion of tattooing showing me that it was more than just degeneracy but history, lineage, culture, meaning and power. He inspired me and I started taking my art to the next level. waking up everyday to draw until I felt that my art was good enough to create a portfolio, so when I came to Albuquerque, two years ago I got an apprenticeship under Albuquerque Ink.
All the artists there would teach me new tips and tricks to elevate my art skills and once I completed my apprenticeship I had left to start my own shop with everything I had learned. Tattooing changed my life becoming one of the biggest passions leading me to work on myself constantly to allow my craft to be a strong representation of me and my dedication.
One thing I love about what I do is people don’t always know what they want tattooed creating a new challenge for me, so I get the chance to take their ideas and make them into a reality.
What makes me the proudest with what I do is when I tell my client that we’re finish and go check out the new tattoo while I clean up. Watching their reaction showing how happy it makes them made me proud of how much passion and drive I put into my work.
I want The Golden Serpent Tattoos to be know for it being different than regular tattoo shops, that we pride our self on the quality more than just to make a buck. But the pride with the deep rooted passion it takes to make art that ages with time and the quality never fades.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
surprisingly, I solely make money off social media with apps like Instagram and Tiktok. I use my tiktok for advertising and my Instagram to discuss with my clients what they are looking to get.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Honesty, Integrity, and not being afraid to push boundaries, pushing passed the limitations of what other artists in the area is doing. standing out with how we operate. our clients have claimed that we are their safe place and where they can go to destress and talk to someone about their problems without judgment.
