Alright, Dominique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?

To be successful, it takes a vision, a plan to get that vision established, the drive to work toward the plan to get the vision established, and faith. I feel like once your vision is clear to you, you have to have a plan of action…how are you going to bring your vision to life? What are you going to do to make it happen? What is your plan? After your plan is created, you’ll need to actively work toward whatever your goal is…whatever your plan entails. It’s not always an easy thing to do but if you stay the course, it will pay off in the long run.

My name is Dominique Smith-White and I am a Professional Makeup Artist and the owner of the Flawless Faces by Dominique Beauty Studio. I am a published, pro makeup artist with 8+ years of experience in the beauty industry. The Flawless Faces by Dominique Beauty Studio is located in the heart of downtown Clarksville, Tennessee.

I pride myself on offering the full luxury experience with every service so that my clients leave feeling more confident and more beautiful than ever before. As my client, you’ll feel valued and can take comfort in the fact that you’ll be taken care of in the manner that you would expect from a professional service provider. I provide services to all of the Clarksville area but also do a lot of work in the Nashville area and surrounding. I also travel out of state frequently for work.

I provide flawless beauty enhancement services for beauties of all ages and nationalities and have years of experience working with various skin types, tones, and textures. My speciality is my signature soft glam and signature bridal glam makeup services but I also offer more dramatic evening event glam as well.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

My interest in all things beauty started when I was a little girl watching my mom get ready for the day. Makeup was much simpler back then but I vividly remember my mom always topping off her makeup look with a red lip. It was her signature! I was so mesmerized by her red lip…I thought it was absolutely beautiful and I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to experiment with makeup. As I got older and moved to Clarksville from West Tennessee in 2005 to attend college at Austin Peay State University, I was the girl walking across campus at 8 in the morning in a full face of makeup, hair curled, and heels on lol. So that prompted people to ask me to do their makeup before parties and other campus events. I didn’t think of seriously pursuing makeup artistry until 2015. I started really expanding my knowledge and practicing my techniques on whoever would let me (friends, coworkers, friends of friends, etc.) and in 2016 I made the decision to leave my job to pursue entrepreneurship/being a professional makeup artist on a full time basis. Fast forward to 2024 and I’ve had the pleasure of servicing thousands of amazing men and women in the city of Clarksville and surrounding areas/states, and abroad in countries such as Jamaica, Mexico, Greece, and The Bahamas. Since my official introduction in 2016, I’ve also had the honor of having some of my makeup work published in both physical and digital magazine publications, having my artistry showcased in music videos, working with an artist for the 2021 Stellar Music Awards as well as for the 2023 Dove Awards, having my makeup grace a BET stage, opening my own beauty studio (Flawless Faces by Dominique Beauty Studio) in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, servicing hundreds of bridal parties, and being nominated for 6 and ultimately winning the best makeup artist awards at several different awards galas here in Clarksville and I am currently nominated for 4 more awards (Best Makeup Artist – Local Spotlight Awards and Best Customer Service, Best Place to Work Less Than 100 employees, and Best Woman Owned Business – Clarksville’s Best). The support that I’ve received over the years has been overwhelming at times but definitely appreciated. In addition, October 2024 will mark the opening of my 2nd location, The Flawless Faces Makeup Collective in Clarksville…a studio exclusively for makeup services filled with makeup artists. It will be the first of its kind in the city. I love what I do so all of the late nights and early mornings are definitely worth it. I enjoy glamming the city a face at a time.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

What has helped build my reputation in my market is the fact that I’ve been consistent in every aspect of my business. From customer service to the finished product that I provide, I have made it a point to always try to perform to the best of my ability. I’m reliable, professional, passionate, and determined to ensure that every single client has an amazing experience when they entrust me with their services.
