Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chrissy Lewis . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chrissy , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Our industry seems to have new trends daily however not all are created equally. While some gadgets are great and can make things easier I feel my hands are my best tool. Knowing the facial muscle structure and how to manipulate that to lift and tone the skin is beyond what any device, tool or gadget can do.
Chrissy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my love for skincare way back when I would use my mothers products. It became a habit I looked forward to even at a young age. I thought how can I make this a career for me? Something I love to do but also being financially successful. (actually making good money and knowing how to reinvest in my business came after years of learning and failing btw.)
Once I got licensed I soaked up any and every free skin care education class I could because they don’t teach you anything useful in school except to pass state board. I started working for a hotel spa in San Diego which was great because they also provided education on their products and I was learning new methods of how amazing a facial can be. I eventually moved to Las Vegas where I worked in a medical spa. I loved the clinical results but it was missing that za za zoo’. I wanted to combine both medical grade skincare with decadent and luxurious touches.
I went on to work for the Ritz Carlton in LA and then NYC. The Ritz spa in Manhattan was next level. This is where I learned that the details make an experience either exceptional or not. You just can’t skip a beat when working on celebrities and royalty. Everything must be on point. It was an amazing experience I will never forget.
.. but I missed home so I moved back to San Diego where I honed in on my clinical esthetics skills with all the luxurious details I learned along the way. I opened up my own space in April of 2021. This is where the fun stuff happens. I created my own signature treatments and brought in a clinical
skin care line as well as a luxurious skin care line imported from Italy. Im able to be a chemist behind the scenes to deliver the most effective facial treatment with all the feels of being in a five star spa. ✨
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Referrals hands down is the best way to grow clientele. Social media presence is a close second but a referral from a friend or trusted source is priceless.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During the same time I wanted to open my own business, I was diagnosed with cancer. It was also when we were completely locked down due to the pandemic. So while my heart was crushed from my health news I also wasn’t sure if we would reopen any time soon. A lot of uncertainties but I knew what I wanted. The tasks of building a business and a brand were a nice distraction during my treatments. It wasn’t easy but looking back, I inspired myself, got more confident in who I was and what I wanted my business to be.
