Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roxanne Gould. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Roxanne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
For many decades I have been a fashion model. Today I have the second longest running career as a model in the industry. That was by no accident. When I first started out as a model and knew I wanted to do it full time, I wrote a letter asking to be represented by this particular agency in New York, I enclosed a photo and waited for a response. Weeks later I received a typed letter telling me “We do not feel you are qualified for a successful career in modeling.” You can imagine how devastated I was as a teenager being told this by New York’s top agency. Well, I didn’t take that message as the final word. Instead, I shifted my game plan and kept my dream alive by going in another direction to pursue what it was that I wanted. Today, that letter is framed and is near my desk to remind me that there is always another way to go after what you want and to not let others tell you that you ‘can’t’.
Roxanne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Modeling has been my life. As a classic model I’ve become an advocate for gray hair, healthy lifestyle, staying fit, eating a good diet, and other daily habits that will help a person feel good year after year. These habits lead to emotional, mental and physical health. The earlier and younger a person starts to use good habits in their life, the better. Because I’ve been living with these certain daily habits my whole life, I speak with authority and know they are effective. I share lots of these habits and tips on my social media channels. Recently, I have graduated from Chopra’s Certification Programs. I am now a Chopra Meditation Instructor, a Chopra Health Instructor and a Chopra Total Well-Being coach. A lot of the subjects we were taught have been what I’ve practiced most of my life. Now, I am a qualified coach to help others gain health through my coaching offerings. To quote Deepak Chopra, “Health it’s not just the absence of a disease. It’s an inner joyfulness that should be ours all the time; a state of positive well-being.” It brings me great pleasure to be able to guide others into a state of positive well-being.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building the amount of followers I have on Instagram has taken years and all of my effort to build it up has worked. I now have 145,000 organic and real followers. It takes focus and time, like anything you want to gain. Gradually, the results started to come in. At first, I followed the trends, like posting boomerangs, then videos, then IG live, then reels, and now it’s grids and it’s ever changing. So keeping up on the trends is important. I watched many YouTube videos on the newest tips, like how many hashtags to use, how often to post, what triggers the AI in a good or bad way, etc. I even enrolled in an online course on how to create a better bio and how to build your unique brand. I spend about 2 1/2 hours every day on Instagram. Keeping the feed true to who you are makes you stand out. There is only one you. People will see your uniqueness and like seeing you as you are. Being vulnerable takes courage yet its real. It’s relatable. Being like that is a great way to build a community.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When covid hit all of us, did you notice how many people started to really look at their life and question what they were really doing with their time and how they were living their lives? I certainly did. Because of that deep introspection, I pivoted into becoming a certified coach, which had been a dream of mine for years. I decided I would become a coach and not put it off anymore. Once the course got going, it was very challenging to study because it was six days a week for 14 months and I was still modeling. My body was so stressed I had eczema breakouts on my face, neck, arms and hands. That caused me to be even more stressed because I needed to have good skin to be able to model. There was one week long job I got booked on and I had to cancel it because of my eczema breakout. It was the only job I have ever cancelled in my long career. When you really want something you’re willing to do whatever it takes to get it. Now that I’ve completed my studying, my skin is healthy again. Looking back I see how I had pushed myself too hard. When your body has symptoms like that, it’s trying to get your attention to make some changes! Working at such a fast, intense pace, I’ll never do again!
