Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bruce Avery Ii. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Bruce thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
How I learned to do what I do…I decided to go to school for Digital Film and Visual Arts. I looked into A few different schools until I came across Mediatech Institute of Houston. I Already received my Associate’s Degree in Audio Engineering and while doing so I met a few teachers who also worked at this school as well so I decided to check the school out and that was the best decision I have made. I Currently Still Attend And will Be Graduating soon
Knowing what I know now I would have honestly started doing this a lot sooner. Learning how to edit videos and use programs like Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Da Vinci Resolve, Final Cut, After Effects, Cap Cut, etc. I would have started teaching myself how to use those programs a lot sooner and would have made more of an effort to use my finances to build up my equipment and sharpen my skills. when I didn’t have a ton of bills lol.
The skills that I found most essential would be learning camera placement, actor blocking, lining the script, creating the shot list, all the editing techniques, and so on i know it sounds like a lot but each thing I just mentioned caused me to have a better understanding of how to direct things put a film together and writing the script.
The obstacle I faced the most while learning all of this and still learning these skills is trying to balance my personal life with my school life. As I said earlier I honestly wish I would have gone a lot sooner when I didn’t have a ton of bills. However, the challenge of it makes me work harder to achieve my goals and I know career-wise it will pay off one day.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Well at first I tried to teach myself. I was good at writing short stories, and poetry and coming up with scenarios. So me and my friends decided hey let’s make something happen! I taught myself how to write scripts and did a bunch of research to find out how to bring my visions to life. it was great but Writers Block took its toll after a while. After thinking about it, I noticed I did not have any other knowledge of how to make a film or a TV show. Knowing that I decided to go to school for Digital Film and Visual Arts. I Attend Mediatech Institute Of Houston I’m Currently Still A student. I will be graduating soon though I Have not decided if I would continue my schooling or just try and jump into the field. but as of right now, I have a few projects in the works, and I’m working on my business plan for my Production company.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I Honestly get to show off my creativity and Be as Weird, Dark, Mushy, Corny, and Raunchy as I want to be. I get to accept the Rules when it comes to my art and no one can dampen it i create what I like and then I’ll show it to people. if they like it wonderful if not well damn but as long as I like it then it’s good.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
This is not an Overnight Process and it takes a strong mind and will to continue as the talented Erykah Badu says “I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit” Yes we all are some things we make might not be our best work and everything we make wont be a hit but we still try everyone has a goal and is trying to work at it this is a race for the long run not an overnight success we will have to sacrifice and bust our asses working to get stuff out and then fight to have people see it and keep their attention.
