We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karine Dieuvil a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Karine, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My entire childhood into late adolesence was focused on education and doing everything as excellent as possible, as fast as possible.
I wanted out. Not necessarily of academia, but the ferocious chase to the destination of someone else’s dream. I had ALWAYS been an actress. I like to recount my first ever play written at the ripe age of 7 years old, a testament to my imagination influenced by heavy biblical allegories gleamed from my “Veggie Tale” days. I realized I had a story to write of my own and that involved getting very good and specific about who I am and what the heck I do. So I leaned into the things that brought the joy in the challenges, and the opportunity to challenge how big my joy could get. It was a leap of faith to go to school to specialize in Acting, but my love and respect for the craft grew ten-fold. As for now, I keep up with classes at the Alliance Theatre, although I only have two tried and true instructors I have never swayed from, its my second year in Atlanta and I just keep going back. Its easy to say all of this now, but school was hard. Not speaking to family much was harder. Feeling guilty about not seeing family as much because I can’t talk to my family, because I am the first of everything just: sucked.
I have been healing from this survivor’s guilt. The best learning experience has been onstage, from Moliere in Classical French to Shakespeare’s lyrical english, I have been flexing my acting SKILL this year. It’s been so delicious, so warm and inviting. A second tongue I call to when I get tired of the one I’m dancing in. It’s a funny thing, I came into this new season of my life ready to speak and only on my terms. And my art has allowed me to do just that. Overall the largest obstacle I have learned to circumvent is myself (LOL). It’s true! I am the marker of the eldest daughter of an immigrant family who is breaking many a curses. It starts with me, and its been great embracing myself in the culture, language, and worlds I cherish most.

Karine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Go to KUGHREEN.com, then hire me for your greenlit historical drama, family-friendly romantic comedy, or next touring Broadway production (because ya girl has range!).
I am Karine Dieuvil! @KUGHREEN (Respect the brand). And in all seriousness, while I do stay booked, because of this insatiable desire to connect with the world via storytelling and the ancestral practice of theatre, I do find myself in precarious venues or “niche” projects at times… but it has also provided me with the scope and experience of an artist truly committed to their craft. I am a creative artist, and I have the ability to radiate through my acting. It allows me to connect with the human experience in one of the most divine and surreal ways I have ever lived through. It’s thrilling, and introspective, and I am incredibly passionate about my practice.
As for the freelance vegan hottie in me, that side of @KUGHREEN runs a digital media marketing agency called The Paper Clique Agency based out of Atlanta, GA, and throws down in the kitchen @VeggieKarine to spread the gospel of accesible, affordable, vegan eating.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
How is this bigger than just myself?

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Law of Attraction and The Power of Now.
These two books significantly impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking. Moreso, it made me aware of my capacity for any and everything. This coupled with my dedicated time for spiritual innerwork, has provided me with the clarity I needed to actualize my dreams and live in this new reality I am in.
