Jarvis , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story behind my mission is that Jarvis Lawhorn Weddings & Events offers our amazing clients perfect weddings and events with exquisite planning, design with a creative approach. Providing excellent customer service and flawless execution of our clients special day. We curate venue options, budgets, conceptual design options and assist with hiring an amazingly great vendor / “Friendors”.
We pride ourselves with holding our clients hand and walking them through every phase of planning while being patient, kind and compassionate.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
My journey in the weddings and events industry started at the age of 11. A television special on VH1 called “Celebrity Weddings” which featured the wedding of NBA superstar, Shaquille O’Neal and his former wife, Shaunie O’Neal. The planner of the wedding was the famed planner, Mindy Weiss. I was instantly fascinated by the couples wedding cake and that literally lit a fire to my passion to become a wedding / event planner. From that day forward I fell in love with the art of hosting and creating memorable events.
There’s been so many instances in which I had to problem solve for my clients but one of the recent ones for a June wedding that I planned and design. The vendor we hired to create the clients custom aisle runner, created the wrong size in terms of wideness and length which overall ruined the exquisite ceremony look. Having an amazing relationship with the vendor “my friendors” we was able to redesign the ceremony room on the spot and make the necessary adjustments to give the client her dream ceremony look without adding cost to her budget along with not having the time to recreate the aisle runner due to it being the day of the wedding. That ceremony was probably one of my favorites and the client never know the huge hiccup that occurred hours before she would walk down the aisle.
I embody so many traits that truly set me apart from others, most notably is the fact that I have studies this industry and I’ve had the opportunity to work with the most amazing mentors. This provided experiences that has helped shape me to be able to work with a diverse and Multi-culture clientele. Keeping my eyes on the latest trends which are ever changing and always staying involved in planning industry to learn from my amazing colleagues within the industry.
I would say the thing I’m most proud of of would be that I was persistent at a young age to create this as my dream career. I went after it with a vengeance and never gave up even with the many disappointments along with way. I’m so proud to have created weddings that have captured the attention of millions all over the world with several of my weddings going viral on the social media which still leaves me in awe. But I would say that I pride myself on building amazing relationships with my clients. When you hire Jarvis Lawhorn, you hire a person who desire to create an event that is unforgettable but also a friend who will handle every aspect of your event with care, love and attention. I’ve been blessed to create long-lasting relationship with every client whom I have serviced, as a result I’ve been most commonly labeled as an extended family member. My brand is simple, I work within a career that is truly my life’s Purpose and I create timeless events filled with extraordinary attention to detail for the most amazing people whom in which I absolutely love.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As I stated, my journey started at 11 with me having a desire to be a wedding / event planner but that journey wasn’t an easy one by far. This journey was a persistent one that was initiated after seeing the VH1 special that featured Shaquille O’Neal’s wedding with the famed planner, Mindy Weiss. I started out on a quest to gain as much information about this industry as possible. After much research, I started reaching out to Mrs. Weiss company. Making weekly phone calls to ask questions and provide my insight on their weekly events, I built a relationship with Mrs. Weiss that has expanded over 15-years. That relationship allowed me the opportunity to travel to Beverly Hills, California to intern with Mindy Weiss and her team in 2015. That opportunity allowed me to work with her team executing multi-million dollar weddings, including the wedding of actress & actor, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello. Many other well-known planners actually resisted my calls / inquires to learn about the business which did pull down my moral and desire to be an event planner but, Mrs. Weiss provided me the mentoring, support, guidance and love that I needed to stay the course and continue to work towards my dream. She taught me to believe in myself and if I did I could conquer anything. She allowed me to see that “Greatness” lived within me.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe the thing that help me build my reputation was that I was persistent and determined to live out my dream. Doing my early years of training and working underneath many luxury companies within Miami as a freelance planner. I would often go without pay and give 110% of myself for that event. I believe my colleagues saw that if I would work within this industry not making one single dime that I had to have had the drive to make a name for myself. I would say that my reputation became that I was driven, motivated and by all means a go-getter who would conquer success by any means necessary.
