We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ross Geraci. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ross below.
Hi Ross , thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Originally moving out from the East Coast Boston, Massachusetts where I had spent my entire life, to San Diego in 2017. However this greatly helped my Film company, and channel projects. Shortly after starting my true crime series on the Zodiac Killer, typically known for a crime spree, and letter writing campaign in the SF Bay area of the late 1960s. We quickly learned there were several much similar MO attacks in southern California in the early 1960s. Due to my close proximity we were able to begin investigating those starting in 2020 with our episode 1. The lesson is if you think taking a risk it is worth it, it most likely will be, my series would not exist had I not done so. Check us out on youtube.com/planetxfilm !

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We run everything under a general umbrella of “Planet X Media” and have split off several divisions, we originally started as the underground hip-hop label “Planet X Records” which has it’s own youtube channel, and bandcamp /w limited merchandise available. The next evolution became “Planet X Filmworks” (on Youtube) where we review different types of movies, short films, and TV series. It was our expedition in to PXF true crime which really took our channel off with the main series “The Zodiac Files” investigating the unsolved serial killings of the man who called himself “The Zodiac” in the late 1960s in early California. We do interviews on a few other cases as well such as The Son of Sam murders in NYC 1970s, the Manson Family crimes, and the DB Cooper unsolved Skyjacking. Definitely most proud of the main Zodiac series which has garnered the most views, Another sub-division is “Planet X Comics” which we have released our first indie title “The Dark Rift Vol. 1: Escape from Earth” action comic on Amazon. Our live shows are very entertaining where we take fan questions during interviews to involve audience engagement. Notable guests have been Tom O’neill (Author of “Chaos”) Eric Ullis who has been featured on DB Cooper TV shows on Netflix & Discovery channel, as well as Drew Beeson who has been featured on History channel programs, and documentaries on the Zodiac Killer.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Since our main shows revolve around unsolved cold cases the material is very sensitive, In that sense our goal is provide as much detail about the cases as possible. Who knows maybe something in our videos will jog the public’s memory, and result in a helpful tip to Law Enforcement. This is very important regarding justice for the victims and their surviving families. In our episode 3 “The Cheri Jo Bates’ Mystery” I had considered posting a public reward of $5000 cash (no expiration) for information on Cheri’s death or attacker in 1966. The problem was someone else had already put up a reward of $50000 for 12 months, and no one came forward. I have always planned to keep the main series free to the public on YouTube, but other aspects of the shows may change with time since YouTube is such an unreliable platform in this day and age.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Simply doing it for the fans is how our outfit started out as PXR, and even after our pivots in PXF, and PXC. There really is nothing like the appreciation of a fan base. Without an audience we would not be making any type of content at all, so the fact that people are following our journey is really a blessing. There are free options such as simply subscribing to our channel, or memberships for those who want to take it further as far as interacting with us. We have also recently launched our Patreon where I post some of my personal research.
