We recently connected with Courtney Kahla and have shared our conversation below.
Courtney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Before becoming a business owner, I frequently visited wellness centers in the DFW area. Each time, I left with the same question: “Do they know and love Jesus?”
This question inspired me to create a holistic wellness center that is Christ-centered. I wanted to ensure that no one leaves wondering about our faith and the God we serve.
While searching for the perfect location for Our Well House, I explored numerous real estate options. Although each could have worked, none gave me the overwhelming sense of peace that I often feel from the Lord—until I discovered 6711 Elm Street in downtown Frisco. The property was mid-renovation, but I felt an immediate connection. Coincidentally, the realtor was on his way to the property as I called, which allowed me to move to the top of the list of potential tenants. This opportunity let me make decisions on final touches like flooring and fixtures. During the preparations for opening Our Well House, our neighbors even brought us meals, and we heard worship music in the evenings. This support and the sense of peace confirmed that this was where God intended me to continue offering nervous system chiropractic care.
Even though there are many chiropractic offices and wellness centers in the DFW area, there are even more people who need to be served. I never felt competitive, even with new wellness centers opening nearby, because I believe there is enough need to support all of us. Don’t be discouraged by the criticism that can come with expressing your beliefs and values through your brand. The support you receive will far outweigh any negativity.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Doctor of Chiropractic specializing in the nervous system. I have additional training from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) to serve pregnant women and infants, toddlers, and kids exceptionally well. I am also working on becoming an IBCLC (lactation consultant) because my advanced training in tethered oral tissues and midline defects has given me the opportunity to serve breastfeeding infants successfully with testimonies such as restoring breastfeeding struggles and preventing frenotomies. I also collaborate with pediatric dentists in creating an optimal timing for release of tethered oral tissues if a frenotomy is recommended.
I believe the emphasis on breastfeeding makes me unique as a chiropractor but I also believe my paradigm of believing the body is self-healing and self-regulating makes me unique as a soon-to-be IBCLC. Most lactation consultants come from a background in nursing so their paradigm is often the pathology of breastfeeding. I love to support moms in utilizing their God-given innate ability to restore proper function to breastfeeding!
By specializing in the nervous system, that means I am known for being gentle, yet specific and effective. I don’t do a lot of twisting, cracking, or popping and there’s no negatives to that — I’m fully trained to do all the cracking — but I believe there is a time and a place for it.
At Our Well House, we offer a range of services, including therapeutic massage, fascial care, functional pediatric care, and holistic esthetics.
I also engage with a broad audience on social media, where I have over 150K followers on Instagram. I share insights about a healthy lifestyle, parenting, and recommend various healthy products for home and personal care.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Social media!! When I graduated chiropractic school in 2014, I had built my Instagram account to 10K followers. This has allowed my ideal practice members to find me and get to know me without having to spend a penny on scheduling an appointment with me. Because of this, I rarely need to educate new clients about my services within the office, as 80% of them find me through Instagram first.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I am in the midst of a pivot. I experienced a cascade of transitions from March-May of this year. One employee decided to move back home, a tenant changed her business location, another employee got offered a really great job opportunity, another employee was on maternity leave, and another employee decided not to return from maternity leave. It was a massive amount of transitions for various reasons that were ultimately all good things, but they happened all at once. While that was overwhelming, it also created a fresh start. I could see how God was orchestrating exits, as well as entrances, and we started blooming with new life this summer!
