We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bree Suber a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bree, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I think I’ve taken is actually starting my businesses, stepping out on faith and not getting a 9-5. Most people are afraid to put their all into something because they’re not sure of the outcome. Honestly that’s the best part, not knowing what’s on the other side of the fence but once you see all your work come to life it’s the best feeling ever. It may not happen as fast as you like but it happened and you didn’t give up on yourself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a photographer/ videographer. I also have my own clothing brand called OutWest. I’m most proud of my photography business because I’ve came a long way from when I first started. Looking back on my first photoshoot and looking at my shoots now I see major growth. Being a female photographer in this industry is hard. So you have to have the extra grind and hustle in you to stay afloat in this business and I think so far I’ve been doing a great job. I take what I do very seriously and my main priority is to make sure my clients are happy and satisfied at the end of the day.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
To start my photography business my grandmother gifted me my first camera. Over the years I’ve said from shoots and use the money from my photography to fund my clothing business. It has not been easy because I do have my moments when I won’t have any shoots for a certain amount of time which makes it harder for me to find my next business. I always find a way though, I’m a hustler by nature. There is always a find to make money. Especially if you’re a creative.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Staying consistent and making sure I make my clients happy so they can keep coming back for photo shoots. I also make it my business to wear my clothing brand to my shoots which sparks a conversation for my clothing brand and usually I’ll make a sell at my photoshoot or have my client follow my brand on social media. So when they’re ready to purchase they can go directly to my website.
