We were lucky to catch up with Kashmir Satchel-Jarrett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kashmir, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
For years I worked a 9-5, had my own place and everything but I was depressed doing something I didn’t love. I eventually had to realize I had.to give up all of that to become what I wanted to be, which was an actor. I gave up my apt, moved in with family and pursued my dream of being a fulltime actor. I took that risk not knowing of I would have a place to live after the decision because the decision came before I inquired about my living situation. Now I’m a fulltime actor and living out what I envisioned. If you envision ot, dream about it,etc…..ACT ON IT!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got started by a friend telling me his associates in California told him that the entire Hollywood was moving to Atlanta. He asked me why don’t I try since my personality is so big. I tried and kept going. Bottom line. I took risks of not knowing where I would love to become what I am supposed to be. The main thing about acting is 2 things: 1. Being YOU! 2. Taking acting classes. The smallest things are the biggest on screen and they are need to know things every actor should know. Whether they use them on film or not. Making relationships is very important. Your likeability goes a very long way in entertainment in general. Don’t just be on set, be IN the moment. Pay attention to words/terms you hear like Margarita, which is the tern for very last shot before wrapping. Be patient. Hours are long, hot, cold, frustrating, etc. If you love it, you can handle anything. What sets me apart from others is I’m always excited about anything dealing with filming, movies, etc. Like a kid in a candy store. You have to love every aspect, even the ones you don’t in order to progress. Take risks. Look outside of where you live. Alot of my bookings are in states besides Atlanta. Do your research. It’s like school. Study until you are a PRO! You can catch me in variety of shows like Tv-One’s For My Man and Fatal Attraction. Preaching Lies currently on Tubi streaming channel, a new BMF documentary for Netflix, Lil Baby’s #1 hit video “Woah”, Quavo ft Yung Miami’s “Scrub Da Ground”, Suicide Squad 2, Wide Open: The Andre Story, the book author Zane’s upcoming movie, Deceptive Behavior, Moneybagg Yo’s movie “If Pain Was A Person”, Vampire Mist with Karon Joseph Riley and TC Carson(Kyle from Living Single) and much, much more. People should know I started from background and it helped me learn alot of things some wouldn’t know without going through background. It humbles you, builds relationships and also prepares you for whats coming later on bigger sets. Have faith, give thanks, be kind and HUSTLE!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is actually doing what I love to do and being recognized for my Hustle and hard work. I love seeing myself in screen and when friends and family let me know if I did good or I have to work on something . Critism is the best thing you can hear. It will let you know if you are headed in the right direction or you need to work harder, study harder. Being able to eventually take care of my immediate family.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
For years I had to catch public transportation to set in any type of weather and that was before rideshare. Sometimes I wouldn’t have busfare or rideshare fare, once it was available. Sometimes set would last until after the bus stopped running. I would have to find rides home or close to home but that’s where building relationships and your likeability come into play. I knew eventually I would progress into more than a background actor because when you go through the worst and continue striving, it’s always good ahead. Now most bookings come to me because I went to them for so long…lol!
