Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Jurie
Hi Caroline, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In my teens I imagined becoming an international model. But I had to put that dream aside and start working to support my family financially. So I went abroad at 19. First to Qatar and then from there to Dubai. While working for Virgin MegaStore I kept applying to talent agencies looking for a opening for a modelling assignment.
After 5 years of trying I finally got an opportunity for a swimwear modelling assignment. However, by that time my daughter was born and I had stretch marks. So I had to forego the opportunity. So, that door closed on me as soon as it opened.
Around the same time I got to know that applications were being called in for the Mrs. Sri Lanka contest. But I was already late. So I decided to apply the following year. Since I had a year I studied about pageants and what it takes to win.
The following year I auditioned for Mrs. Sri Lanka, got selected and then won. A few months later, in December 2019, I flew to Las Vegas for the Mrs. World finals. There I won the Mrs. World 2020 crown.
In April 2021 resigned from my title and gave up the crown. It was a decision based on principles.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that challenges and obstacles can strength us. Growing up I faced may challenges and it helped me during my journey to the Mrs. World crown win. As a kid the financial difficulties we faced as a family and then my fight with depression as a teenager later became my biggest strengths as they built up my resilience.
My Mrs. World journey was a difficult road as I did not have sponsors. I had to borrow money from friends and fly to Vegas alone after three visa rejections. My husband’s and daughter’s visas were rejected too. I had to make do with what I had. So with a low cost wardrobe, and just money in hand for the makeup artist and taxi fare from the airport to the hotel in Las Vegas and back to the airport for the return flight, I left for the Mrs. World contest.
I believe it is my resilience that gave me the strength and courage to focus on my goal of winning, despite the odds stacked against me during the Mrs. World 2020 competition.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The Covid pandemic changed many things. Mostly it changed the way we work. The start WFH concept really redefined the way we worked and lived. That challenging period forced us to adopt to new ways.
Covid hit almost after I won the Mrs. World 2020 crown. So, it directly affected my commercial opportunities, but through those challenges I re-discovered my own resilience. The empowerment projects I embarked on, and my business venture were results of my learning during the pandemic.
