Today we’d like to introduce you to Elvira Carrasco
Hi Elvira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a multidisciplinary artist. Since I was little I have been surrounded by works of art, I studied Art History at university, I went to work in London in an art gallery and it was there where I bought my first camera. In 2015 I returned to Spain and investigated photography, creating “Faces Project”, my most personal project, making self-portraits with my face painted as a canvas. In 2020 I started taking portraits of clients and this year, 2024, I am painting faces of celebrities.
I intend to continue with this project throughout my life, creating an evolution of my face and painting.
Currently I also do sculpture and painting on rigid supports.
I exhibit my work all over the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have always believed in myself, I have been dedicating myself exclusively to this for 9 years and I feel very proud of everything I have achieved and what I continue to achieve every day. It is a work of discipline and perseverance. I face challenges every time I pick up a brush, but I overcome obstacles with great ease. There are always new projects that I want to achieve, but I am clear that sooner or later I will see them realized.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known for my project “Faces Project” in which I use my own face or that of other people as a canvas on which I paint an abstract work. Afterwards, I take a photograph to immortalize the work and print them in large formats, very impressive for the public.
I am proud to have managed to carry out research work on myself to be able to create a completely innovative and never-before-seen form of portrait. I differentiate myself from the rest of the portraits or artists because I consider that I have an easily recognizable personal stamp, something very complicated in a world in which there are so many creators.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I have never visited LA. I have been in Miami exhibiting my work and enjoying the atmosphere. I would love to return to the United States and specifically to Los Angeles with a proposal for an exhibition in an important space or gallery. I have many American clients who buy my work, they love it. I’m sure I can visit your wonderful city soon.
