Every once in a while we have the good fortune of working on a project that we feel truly matters, a project that we’ll still be thinking about years from now. Maybe even something we can imagine telling our grandkids about – surely you’ve had moments like that where something you did in your professional life really mattered?

Earlier this year I released a single called “Quicksand” from my upcoming concept album “Black Dreams” This project is based around the “African American experience”. Black Dreams is a powerful and meaningful body of work allowing me to bring my listeners into my world and tell the story of countless others like me speaking up for the voiceless inspiring listeners, pushing for social change, and finding solidarity with others in the struggle. This one is hard because all my projects are very meaningful to me. I do everything from a passionate place so it’s kind of hard to just pick one but if I HAD TO pick, it would be the PLAY IN DALLAS Merch. I am the founder of a non profit organization called the PLAYHouse Foundation and PLAY stands for Providing Leadership Around Youth, the PLAY IN DALLAS Merch was the first thing I created to announce my organization and it represented everything my mission stands on. Every project I have worked on has been very meaningful. The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the docuseries, “The Cooz Story.” The story is about a prominent family and legend of the inner city of Third Ward Houston. The most meaningful project I’ve worked on so far, would have to be the mural I did for “Black Love Mural Fest” in 2021. I was hand selected out of 60 other artists to create a large-scale curation in Civics Center Park! It was such a great opportunity to not only be surrounded by Black artists, but to be able to represent so many communities within my work. Read more>>

It’s hard to select just one meaningful project! So here is a little bit about 3 of my most recent works. In a time with particularly strong anti-Asian sentiment, driven by ignorance and the COVID-19 pandemic, Megan Lowe Dances shifted our attention to sharing free and accessible outdoor public art in solidarity with API communities, as part of efforts to revitalize the community during the pandemic. I am lucky to have been a part of many meaningful projects. One specific project recently that has been very significant to me, came to me in a perfect combination of divine timing and preparation. My dear friend Katie Boland, who is an accomplished and incredibly talented actor, writer and director was making a feature film (and yes she was the lead actor playing twins, writer and director!) and asked me to do costume design. I had the privilege of executive producing Christian Hip-Hop Rapper and Songwriter, A-Dub White’s, debut album “Cupid Tape.” The album is the start to his blueprint for millennial, Christian-romance. My contribution to the project initiated after I approached A-Dub White (on Instagram live) requesting his collaboration in a Christian-romance single originally titled “Shoot My Shot.” Our creative processes meshed so well we ended up collocating on a full album about this topic! Artistic careers can be fulfilling yet exhausting on the art-maker over time, which often leads to burnout. To offset this, I try to make time for personal work so that I can bring my stories to life on my own terms. In working on a series of personal drawings that were based on a short story that I wrote, it led to new work opportunities. It led to new book cover projects, murals, and other commissions. It also led to a new style/ approach to illustration that I’ve been working on the past years to better. Read more>>

I have two deeply meaningful projects that come to mind. One, was a movement-art visual I co-produced in 2018 with my friend, Eddie Rodriguez, to Vicktor Taiwo’s “Digital Kids.” This was also around the same time I started writing my book, which is the other most meaningful project to me. During the spring of 2021, cherry blossoms located in Washington, D.C. had their peak blooms several days ahead of the 30-year average. In Kyoto, Japan, the cherry trees’ peak bloom was the earliest on record in 1,200 years. This follows a pattern of earlier blooms since the 1800s. Scientists warn that the blooms are just one sign of the greater looming climate crisis; earlier blooms were probably caused by warmer mean springtime temperatures. Read more>>

I’m blessed to be in the position I’m in as a T-4 spinal cord injury survivor so every project is meaningful but there are a few that really stand out. After I broke my back, I lost my ex, lost my job, and lost myself. On top of all that, I had also recently found out my ex was pregnant with my daughter. Being in the state of self loathing and self pity and fighting through those months of pain and solitude compelled me to start to make real and lasting changes, starting with my health. Read more>>

My family—Ukrainian dad, Russian mom and two kids born in Kazakhstan—immigrated to Northeast Philadelphia after the Soviet Union collapsed. I was the human canvas as part of the End Violence campaign by Charles Gitnick. I clutched an assault rifle to my body, the paint camouflaging the weapon into my silhouette, to demonstrate how closely we carry the burdens of gun violence with us. Months prior to this project, a family member fell victim to an armed robbery in Haiti. The performance was a statement, from a pro-gun rights standpoint, that action needs to be taken to regulate gun control. Read more>>

My most meaningful project is the one I am currently working on; the creation of monumental size sculptures. This is a vision I have had since becoming a sculptor. I have been told and fully believe that size does make a huge difference in terms of exposure, recognition and the potential for success as a sculptor. To have this artistic dream come true is also important to me personally; though in terms of my art everything is personal. Read more>>

I started a project of expressing my emotions that are the hardest to put into words. The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my original Musical Theatre production, Plain A New Age Cabaret. Plain came from a bad relationship I had. I based it around my situation of feeling low self esteem, depression, hiding my authentic self as to not upset others. The characters I wrote were all real people in my life. Being a Theatre baby, goer, and having gotten a BFA in Theatre I wanted to share with the world what a Cabaret felt like- but an urban one! Read more>>

When I first started my music journey I was is a rap group. Most hooks I would write would be a singing hook, I often gravitated towards singing, it was something about singing that I connected with more than rapping. I found myself writing more and more r&b music and by the time I ventured into being a solo artist I already had a full album ready to record. Read more>>

The most meaningful project I have worked on is one of my visual art projects. The project is titled “My Bad Mama”. The project highlights awareness of domestic violence. This project is significant to me because of the importance of raising awareness of social issues within the community and society. I directed the project and wrote the song and poem used in the project. I was an actress for the project. I also created the storyline of the project. I have intertwined my talents and art to raise awareness of domestic violence within the community. Read more>>

It’s funny, every project is the most meaningful when I’m immersed in it. I’m going to refrain from discussing a current one and select the writing of my book “The Mindful Guitarist” (© 2015 Falling Mountain Music). While ostensibly a guitar instruction book, it’s actually a detailed outline of my creative process, told through the allegory of my Yoga practice. Read more>>

My ongoing project is to bring attention to composers who have been largely forgotten since their deaths. At the start of the pandemic, I was admittedly happy to have a much more substantial amount of time to myself. I was excited to be able to concentrate on creative projects–drawing, writing, and dipping my toes into songwriting–without the concern of social events hovering over my head. As time passed, however, I found that this lack of social interaction began to wear on me–something I didn’t recognize for a very long time throughout the pandemic, and something I certainly did not expect as a total introvert.
