We recently connected with Dr, Parisnicole Payton and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr, Parisnicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear a story from back when you were an intern or apprentice. What’s a memorable story you can share with us?
When I began my career in sports, I had no connections and no sports clients. I did some research and my first sports role was with the NFL Super Bowl Host Committee, working as a volunteer administrator. It was very challenging but also rewarding. I was able to learn the business of sports by doing the small to big administration. Over time, I was able to grasp the sports business and worked for years to establish myself as an elite sports publicist.
Dr, Parisnicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am from Philadelphia. I am a graduate of Saint Clement and West Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia. I am a communications director, sports executive, publicist, and marketing strategist. I assist sports and entertainment public figures, influencers, small businesses; and nonprofits create a customized result-driven “plan of action” for brand visibility and media exposure. In January 1990, I established The PNP Agency™, an independent mobile, and management PR agency. I provide the service of public relations, management, and crisis prevention.
My main responsibilities are to coordinate all aspects of media relations and develop and send news releases. I execute public relations strategies that deliver measurable results. She is an expert in the strategic preparation of her clients for media placements, press conferences, tours, speaking engagements, and events. As well, I educate clients on networking techniques, including the formation of vital business relationships and resource alliances. Lastly, I manage and negotiate contracts and coordinate referrals for clients to ensure long-term recognition and success. I do maintain client relations and support a variety of fundraising and community awareness initiatives.
I am mostly proud of stepping into the sports industry, starting a career with no knowledge or connections, and turning all my hard work into becoming well-known as a sports publicist.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I generally had an enthusiasm for music and entertainment, which began while I was in high school. In January 1990, I established The PNP Agency by managing unsigned artists and organizing events for stage production, radio, and television. Quick forward to 2000 is the point at which I made the transition to sports given by a suggestion somebody made to me, I would be perfect at managing athletes. This was when I felt the music and entertainment industry was not aligned with my main goal, purpose, mission, and reason. Subsequently, I pivoted to transition into a new career, I did some research and examination and began to seek a lifelong career as a sports publicist representing NFL players.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My resilience was to be taken seriously in working in the sports industry. This took hard work, being persistent, determined, and more importantly, having faith. I knew I could be a major contributor to athletes by providing public relations and management services. Overall the years, I did the due diligence in learning the sports business. My position is to be a resource of answers and solutions.
