We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laura Cheadle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I grew up with my music in my soul, I often say that I came out of the womb singing! My father is a legendary musician so I literally grew up with famous musicians in my basement. I knew that this musician lifestyle was full of incredible adventures! When I was a teenager, I became broken hearted, picked up a guitar and have been rocking and rolling ever since. Nothing compares to the feeling of singing to a crowd and having them completely immersed in the songs you wrote.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love to call myself a ‘funky soul stress’ I have nine albums out that range from pop to blues to funk and soul. Everything that I sing has a soulful undertone. My latest album ‘Mannequin’ with So Bold Ent/Sony Orchard is on the pop/soul side and has already amassed millions of streams! I am currently on tour right now promoting this album and we continue to sell out every venue. I’m amazed at what a manifestation can do! I manifested touring with these songs and it’s coming to fruition right now!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I recently won the game show ‘Raid The Cage’ on CBS. It was a crazy and amazing experience! On the show, I exclaimed ‘I am proud to represent strong women everywhere!’ That was heard around the world and launched me to be an advocate for not only strong women, but women who would like to get stronger. I will be touring with my all girl band in New Orleans August 22nd and 23rd!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part is touching people’s lives. I write songs from my experiences and when people tell me it healed them, it makes my soul shine. I feel that playing music comes from the highest frequency and I love to share the love with the world.
