We were lucky to catch up with Danielle Womack recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Looking back, I often find myself wishing I had started my esthetics career much sooner. My journey in the beauty industry began in 2006 with MAC Cosmetics, where I spent four transformative years that I fondly refer to as my “makeup college.” Those years were pivotal, yet by 2010, I found myself craving more. Leaving MAC, I embarked on a new path as a freelance wedding makeup artist. However, the desire for something deeper, a more meaningful career, was ever-present.
In 2012, I took a step toward that dream by applying to esthetics school. But life, as it often does, had other plans. Personal upheavals kept me from pursuing my education until 2019, when I finally felt ready. At 35, I entered esthetics school, feeling like an elder among my younger classmates, but also certain that I was exactly where I was meant to be.
Then came the unforeseen challenge: Covid-19. Just as I was gaining momentum, the pandemic forced me to put my dreams on hold once again. It was a difficult time, but also a period of growth. The pandemic tested my resolve, teaching me to persevere, to continue pushing forward, and to hold onto my vision even in the face of uncertainty.
Though a part of me wishes I had started my journey a decade earlier, I also recognize that the obstacles I faced along the way were essential. These challenges shaped not only my skills as an esthetician but also my character as a business owner. Every setback, every tough moment, has contributed to the person I am today. While I sometimes wonder how different things might have been if I had begun sooner, I’m ultimately grateful for the experiences that have made me who I am and I wouldn’t change my journey.

Danielle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I transitioned into esthetics after a 13-year career as a makeup artist, driven by my belief that healthy skin is the foundation for truly beautiful makeup. While I’ve always had a passion for makeup, I’ve come to understand that achieving the best results starts with well-nurtured skin. Among the services I offer, dermaplane facials are a personal favorite. I enjoy the instant transformation they bring, revealing radiant, smooth skin—the kind of glowing, glass-like complexion we all want. I also find great satisfaction in performing extractions, knowing I’m helping to clear out the hidden impurities that can compromise skin health.
What sets me apart as an esthetician is my approach: I combine indulgent, feel-good facials with education, ensuring that my clients leave not only feeling rejuvenated but also with a deeper understanding of their skin and its unique needs. I’m passionate about skin care and continually seek to expand my knowledge, staying informed about the evolving conditions that can affect our skin over time.
My ultimate goal is for my clients, both current and future, to feel safe, heard, and respected after each service. I want them to know that I am fully committed to their skincare journey and genuinely care about their progress and success.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I can honestly say that my business wouldn’t be where it is today without the Bosses In Beauty course, Beauty Business Blueprint. I took the course about six months after opening my first solo suite, and before I even finished it, I had already earned back three times what I invested in it! Since 2021, I’ve managed to increase my revenue by 20% each year, and now I’m exploring storefront locations to expand and start building a team.
I always thought I’d be a solo esthetician, but I’ve come to realize that while you can go fast alone, you can go much farther with a team. My next big goal is to hire a team so I can focus on working on the business rather than in it. I’m aiming to find that balance between work and life, especially when it comes to spending more time with my husband and our dogs.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Growing up, we’re often taught that life is a competition—whether it’s in sports, academics, or even friendships. This early emphasis on competing really shaped my mindset, making me believe that I had to go head-to-head with other business owners offering the same services and products. But as I’ve grown in my career, I’ve realized that this isn’t true at all. There are plenty of clients for each of us, and the ones who are meant for us will always find their way to us.
I’ve come to embrace the saying, “those at the bottom compete, while those at the top collaborate.” It’s a powerful reminder that success isn’t about outdoing others, but about working together to elevate everyone in the industry.
